The NWS has issued a Special Weather Statement for Elevated Fire Weather for Stafford County Sunday, March 29, 2026 until 8pm. The combination of dry fuels, low relative humidity and wind gusts up to 25 mph increase the risk of rapid spread of wildfires today.

Residents and visitors are urged to properly dispose of cigarette
butts, matches, and any other flammable items in appropriate
containers. Additionally, exercise caution if operating any
equipment that could create sparks and keep vehicles off of dry
grass. Most dry grasses, dead leaves, and other tree litter could
easily ignite and spread fire quickly.

Outdoor burning is strongly discouraged today. The Virginia Burn Law prohibits outdoor burning before 4pm.

Congratulations Gavin Wright!

Severe Thunderstorms, Strong Winds, and Possibly Tornadoes are forecasted to impact the area, today. The timing for the most significant impacts looks to be in the late afternoon to the late evening hours. Here are some safety tips from our partners at the National Weather Service:
-Immediately go inside a sturdy building during a high wind warning or severe thunderstorm warning and move to an interior room or basement.
-If you are in a mobile home, move to a sturdy building before the winds pick up or the storm system reaches your location.
-Listen to the local news or NOAA Weather Radio for updates. This event may lead to power outages.

Please understand that power crews can not work if winds are above a certain speed. Please ensure you can sustain yourself and family for 24 hours. Here are some links/ ways to contact Dominion Energy:

Today, we share the unfortunate news of the passing of one of our own, a man who meant so much to the history and heart of our department.

With heavy hearts, the members of the Stafford Volunteer Fire Department announce that the Lord welcomed home our beloved Life Member, Past Chief, Chaplain, and proud United States Marine, and more importantly, our friend, Ron Thayer.

Chief Thayer dedicated decades of service to this department and to the citizens of Stafford County. His leadership, mentorship, and unwavering support of the volunteer fire service helped shape generations of firefighters. Even in retirement, Ron remained one of our biggest supporters, always encouraging members and taking pride in the continued success of the department he loved so dearly.

Beyond the firehouse, Ron’s faith, humility, and sense of humor left a lasting impact on everyone who had the privilege of knowing him. He embodied what it meant to serve others—with compassion, dedication, and integrity.

We are grateful for the legacy he leaves behind and the example he set for all of us who continue the mission today.

Please keep the Thayer family, as well as Ron’s many friends and brothers and sisters in the fire service, in your thoughts and prayers during this difficult time.

Semper Fi, Chief. We have the watch from here. 🇺🇸🚒🙏

So sad to hear about his passing, God bless you!!
