Congratulations to the members of King George Fire & Rescue and Fredericksburg Fire Department whose teamwork, advanced clinical care, and professionalism helped save the life of a critically injured motorcycle crash victim. Congratulations to Battalion Chief Dan Dixon, Captain Matthew Russell, Lieutenant Triston Beverly, Master Technician Elliot Ganson, Battalion Chief Chris Smith, DPO Geoffrey Knight, Firefighter Haley Zappos, Firefighter Charles Bullock, and Firefighter Marley Ramirez-Tuthill.

Our condolences and prayers to FF Mason’s family, friends and colleagues.

It is with a very heavy heart that we share the passing of Firefighter Mason Fercovic-Ortegel, who tragically died in an off-duty drowning incident at Lake Anna. Mason was only 24 years old.

This is a heartbreaking loss for Mason’s family, friends, coworkers, and our entire FREM family. We ask that you keep his family and everyone who knew and loved Mason in your thoughts and prayers during this incredibly difficult time.

Our department will stand beside Mason’s family and our members in the days ahead. We will do everything we can to support them, care for one another, and honor Mason and his service to our community.

Please continue to lift up Mason’s family, friends, and fellow department members.

Rest easy, Mason. You will not be forgotten.

Congratulations to Firefighter/EMT Bullock, Company 3 B Shift, on completing his Tanker Operator packet!
This process covers vehicle operations in emergency and non-emergency situations, maintenance, and equipment.
This required the competent completion of:
- Driving miles
- Operating on calls for service
- Pump operations
- Rural Water Supply Scenarios

King George County has three Tankers, which all hold 2,500 gallons of water. These apparatus are used to deliver water to fire scenes in areas that do not have fire hydrants or areas that have limited access.

This process entails proficiency with driving and operating the apparatus itself as well as all equipment contained in it.
