Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity

Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity We believe that everyone deserves a safe, decent, affordable place to live. Donations come from individuals, churches, local businesses and corporations.

Our affiliate operates in the City of Fredericksburg and the counties of Stafford, Spotsylvania, and King George. Many families are in need of our services, so we try to keep our building costs low by utilizing contributions, donated materials, and volunteer labor. Volunteers are key to our operations. Our volunteers come from every walk of life, and everything we do is made possible by their support!

Home is more than a place. It’s stability, safety, belonging, and the foundation people build their lives around. This National Homeownership Month, we’re celebrating the value of having a safe and affordable place to call home and the communities that make that possible.

An amazing human did good work here, for a very long time. She hammered and sawed the wood for homebuyers she would never meet. She raised funds for projects she wouldn't see completed. Greater Fred Habitat Women Build was created on the idea that women coming together, could do amazing things, including but not limited to, building homes. Sherrie Wilson remains a part of our affiliate's legacy for all time. We will miss her undeniably, however she set the standard by which other women will carry forth and continue to build on.

Bon Voyage, Sherrie! May the road always rise up, friend!

At Greater Fredericksburg Habitat for Humanity, our Habitat homeowners don’t receive their homes for free.

Each family in our program dedicates hundreds of hours to sweat equity—helping to build their homes, volunteering in the ReStore, participating in homeownership classes, and preparing for their future.

This process reflects our core mission: to empower families to achieve affordable homeownership through partnership, dedication, and perseverance.

**The Mayfield Meadows & Canterbury Trails Initiative Continues Forward**

Our latest community-focused outdoor enhancement within Habitat’s Canterbury subdivision is getting set to roll out. Plans for starting the project are set for June 2026. This project features a 1,500-foot permeable mulch trail, new community garden beds, and welcoming shared spaces designed to strengthen neighborhood connections. Our goal is to promote environmental stewardship while preserving natural land for current residents and future generations.

The Canterbury Trail will connect the first Habitat build to upcoming projects, symbolizing continuity and fostering a vibrant community identity. The initiative also includes native plantings, educational signage, and stormwater-friendly pathways that support watershed health and environmental learning.

In partnership with Downtown Greens and Friends of the Rappahannock, we’re blending nature and education to empower our community. Ten new garden beds will offer space for growing vegetables and pollinator-friendly plants, with durable fencing and native species that emphasize sustainability and resident involvement.

This is a lasting investment in our neighborhood’s health, beauty, and self-sufficiency. 🌿🚶‍♂️🌸
