FREDERICKSBURG CANNOT STOP WINNING

WE DID IT, FXBG ๐ŸŽ‰๐Ÿ†

Fredericksburgโ€™s Caroline Street has been named Best Main Street in the South by Garden & Gun Magazine following a three-week, bracket-style competition that drew hundreds of thousands of votes.

In one of the most competitive finals to date, Fredericksburg Main Street faced DeLand, Florida, with results too close to call until the final moments. In the end, our community secured the win.

A great new business here in Central Park! BY THE WAY๏ฟผ, if you want the charcuterie board experience but without getting an entire board for yourself, they actually have individual cups and boxes. It's a very neat concept!

Please report unusual flowing or standing water along or near a city road. Or if you notice low or no water pressure in your home, it could indicate a potential issue.

Water mains are pipes that carry drinking water to homes and businesses. Water main breaks can occur any time of year, but are more likely to occur in the winter and unfortunately cannot be predicted. Freezing and thawing soil creates movement in the ground that can bend or shift water mains.

Maintenance and repair of the Cityโ€™s infrastructure, including water mains, are planned for on a yearly basis. This year is no exception. Our Fredericksburg Public Works staff is on call for water emergencies and they work to address known breaks as quickly as possible. Their top priority is to restore water service to our community with efficiency and safety in mind. We appreciate residents respecting the work zones of our workers and obeying traffic detours as needed.

Water emergency repair times vary greatly โ€“ often a repair can be completed before an alert can even be generated. Please note that alerts are sent when a repair is anticipated to take an extended amount of time. The public is encouraged to subscribe at FredericksburgAlert.com > Water/Sewer Disruptions.

A lot of good information in this update, but I definitely want to give a shout out to our Public Works Department ๏ฟผfor the tremendous job they've done so far getting the roads clear. Plowing snow is hard enough, but the inch of ice on top makes it a lot more difficult. ๏ฟผThank you!

The City of Fredericksburg announces road conditions, weather updates, storm safety, and closures/cancellations updates:

๐—ช๐—ฒ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ต๐—ฒ๐—ฟ ๐—ฎ๐—ป๐—ฑ ๐—ฅ๐—ผ๐—ฎ๐—ฑ ๐—–๐—ผ๐—ป๐—ฑ๐—ถ๐˜๐—ถ๐—ผ๐—ป ๐—จ๐—ฝ๐—ฑ๐—ฎ๐˜๐—ฒ๐˜€:
In coordination with VDOT, we are asking residents to continue to stay off the roads as the snow removal crews work to clear roads today. Please allow crews to operate their equipment and public safety personnel to respond, without unnecessary obstacles.

Night shift crews plowed Priority 1 roads throughout the night, opening shoulders, turn lanes and clearing intersections on Route 1 and Route 3. Priority 1 roads are considered moderate with some cleared pavement and areas with patches of packed snow and ice. Public Works Street crews continue their efforts in clearing and removing snow and ice from City maintained streets today. Crews are moving onto the main Priority 2 roads and into neighborhood streets. Many of these Priority 2 and neighborhood roads were plowed at the beginning of the storm event; however, they are still covered with snow and ice. Crewsโ€™ work will involve plowing the roads and clearing intersections. Public Works Facilities crews are continuing work to clear the sidewalks and walkways adjacent to City facilities for pedestrians and access to the facilities.

Parks & Recreation crews are working to clear parking lots for the Cityโ€™s main parking lots. The Sophia Street Parking Garage is cleared and accessible. The Cityโ€™s contractor will be assisting with removing large snow mounds in the city. Please be advised of โ€œblack iceโ€ in all areas today.

Equipment that has been in use throughout the storm included thirteen 2 ยฝ ton trucks with spreaders and plows, seven 1-ton trucks with spreaders and plows, and two front end loaders. Additionally, eight trucks with plows are used by other city departments to clear parking lots and entrance areas. Four smaller snow removal pieces of equipment are utilized as well.

City crews and Dominion Energy are prepared to respond to any downed trees and limbs that may impact utility lines if these issues arise. Currently no power outages have been reported in the City.

The forecast calls for continued below freezing temperatures into the single digits overnight into Tuesday morning. This will allow the snow and ice to stick around. Also, โ€œchunksโ€ of snow that you may see on the roads and sidewalks will take the form of mini boulders. Temperatures are forecasted to not get much above freezing over the next 7-10 days.

Per City Code ยง 66-73 Snow and ice on sidewalks, all owners (residential and businesses) or occupants of properties within the city limits are responsible for the removal of the snow or ice from the sidewalks adjacent to their property within 12 hours after ice has formed or snow has ceased to fall. If the ice forms or snow falls during the night or on Sunday, it shall be removed by noon the following day. Sand or other abrasives may be applied to ice if removal is not feasible. As snowfall has ceased, residents and businesses are reminded of this requirement to clear the adjacent sidewalks and ADA access ramps of snow and ice.

Make preparations for possible power outages that could last over 6 hours. City Leadership has coordinated with our Department of Social Services Director, and there is a plan to open a Shelter and/Warming Centers if prolonged power outages occur. A notification will be sent via FredAlert and shared on the City's website and social media. Please stay alert to changing conditions, practice cold weather safety, and check on your neighbors. Micah will be operating a downtown emergency snow shelter during the day on Monday, January 26. Neighbors experiencing homelessness should come to FXBG Baptist (at the 1016 Caroline entrance) to access the daytime shelter.

If you lose power, there are three ways to report your outage to Dominion Power and track your restoration time: 1) Dominion Energy mobile apps, iPhone [apps.apple.com] and Google [play.google.com]; 2) Dominion Energy website; or 3) Call 866-DOM-HELP (866-366-4357). Stay away from downed poles and power lines. If you see a downed pole or wire, please report it by calling 866-DOM-HELP and staying at least 30 feet away. The line could be energized and dangerous.

We want to encourage everyone to practice safe shoveling techniques.

โ€ข Dress warmly, making sure to cover your head, fingers and toes
โ€ข Stay hydrated, but avoid heavy meals right before or after shoveling
โ€ข Move only small amounts of snow with each pass of the shovel
โ€ข Push the snow (DO NOT lift the snow)
โ€ข Take frequent breaks
โ€ข Stop shoveling entirely if you feel exhausted
โ€ข Make sure you take care of your neighbors if they are unable to shovel near their occupancy.
โ€ข To avoid extra shoveling, clear private driveways after the plow passes and shovel snow to the right side as you face the street.
