On a happy note!
The Virginia Autism Project is proud to have worked with Delegate Irene Shin, Dennis Findley, The Arc, and The Autism Society of Central Virginia to gain full and final passage of HB37 which allows Medicaid recipients to keep their waiver if a parent dies or retires and then receives SSDI in an amount that would kick them off the waiver.
The state will "disregard" the amount above the income limit and thus allow the waiver recipient to continue on their Medicaid Waiver.
This was a 5 years of work!

🗳️ Virginia Voting Rights Update

Beginning July 1, 2026, a new Virginia law changes how voting rights are addressed when a guardian is appointed.

Under the new law, individuals placed under guardianship will keep their voting rights unless a court specifically determines that those rights should be removed and provides an explanation for that decision.

This change shifts the process from automatic removal to preserving voting rights unless the court orders otherwise.

If voting rights were removed in the past, individuals may be able to petition the court to have those rights restored.
