This is my official State Delegate government account Karen survived domestic violence and rape to become a champion for the safety of women and children, and the men who respect their rights and bodies.
Karen is a lifelong Maryland re
sident, and a Maryland State public servant since 1992. Karen is very familiar with Maryland law. As a Child Protective Services Worker and the first manager for Maryland's Child Protection Citizens Review Panels, Karen became an expert in Maryland's criminal and family law; and brought millions of grant funds to Maryland. As a child protection advocate, Karen became an outspoken supporter of women and children. She rallied support for child welfare and domestic violence legislation to make Maryland a safer place for everyone. She facilitated meetings between law enforcement, juvenile services, Maryland schools, the courts, local government, members of our General Assembly, the community, and citizens to monitor government intervention and services. Karen served as a family court facilitator. Karen lost her brother, Danny, to suicide. To help herself and other families through such a deep enduring grief, Karen served Maryland as a suicide bereavement group facilitator.
Karen dedicated her life to serving Maryland. As the Deputy Director of Campaign Finance, Karen became an expert in election, campaign finance, and procurement law. Karen is fiscally responsible with local, State, and federal funds. She knows how to get the most out of our hard-earned dollars. And now, as the Education and Training Manager for Maryland State Retirement Agency, Karen is an expert in State Personnel and Pension law.
Karen lost another brother, Paul, to an avoidable workplace accident on the Kent Island Bridge. Karen and her family understand the importance of unions and their advocacy on behalf of working people. She has been a Teamsters 355 member since 2005. When Karen needed an advocate, her union was there to help. Also, for a brief time, Karen owned a small art business. Karen graduated from Maryland public schools, received her Bachelor of Science degree in psychology at Radford University and Master of Arts degree in Community Counseling from Towson State University. She is a lifelong learner and a Certified Professional of Talent Development. In 2018, Karen ran for an open Maryland delegate seat. In 2019, Karen was selected to represent her district on her local Democratic Central Committee and elected President of the Democratic Women.
Karen Simpson resides in Frederick, Maryland. She is running for the opportunity to serve her community in Annapolis as the Maryland District 3 Delegate.
