🤝Support our Mission In the 1980s a group of individuals and organizations led by All Saints Episcopal Parish, Frederick, Maryland partnered and worked together to address the growing homeless rate for families in the community. The outcome of their admirable efforts is the founding of Advocates for Homeless Families in 1988, an organization that has successfully impacted the lives of several hundred families who otherwise may not have had the support and resources to overcome their homelessness.

Shiara had the opportunity to attend the Ausherman Family Foundation’s 2026 Professional Development Series, joining fellow nonprofit leaders for a workshop focused on nonprofit budgeting, financial management, and mitigating financial risk.

We’re grateful for opportunities like these that allow Advocates for Homeless Families to keep learning, growing, and strengthening the work we do for families in our community.

Thank you to The Word Woman, LLC, Joshua Pedersen, and the Ausherman Family Foundation for an informative and valuable session!

Leadership means showing up, speaking up, and making sure every voice has a place at the table.

We’re proud to have Board Member and State Delegate Kris Fair as part of the Advocates for Homeless Families family. Kris continues to be deeply involved in efforts that advance equality, celebrate diversity, and build a stronger, more inclusive community for everyone.

His commitment to people and to creating opportunities for all is reflected not only in his public service, but in the many ways he continues to serve right here at home.

We’re excited to share that our Executive Director, Shiara, is joining the Leadership Frederick County Class of 2026–2027!

Leadership is about continuing to learn, building meaningful connections, and finding new ways to strengthen the community around us. We know Shiara will bring the same passion she has for the families we serve at Advocates for Homeless Families to this experience.

Congratulations, Shiara! We can’t wait to follow along throughout the year and see where this journey takes you.

Not every situation is the same. Not every story is simple. And the truth is, not every situation is pretty.

Many of the families who come to Advocates for Homeless Families are facing complicated circumstances, difficult decisions, and barriers that can’t be solved overnight. That’s why having the right people walking beside them matters.

We are incredibly blessed to have case managers like Andrea who meet our residents- and potential residents - where they are. From navigating resources and overcoming obstacles to setting goals and taking those next steps toward stability, Andrea is there every step of the way.

This work takes patience. It takes compassion. It takes understanding that progress looks different for every family.

On National Nonprofit Day, we’re reminded that lasting change happens when a community chooses to show up for its neighbors. 💙

At Advocates for Homeless Families, we work alongside families experiencing homelessness to help them move toward stability, independence, and a home of their own.

That work goes far beyond providing a place to stay. It means helping families overcome barriers, access resources, build financial stability, pursue education and employment, and create a stronger foundation for what comes next.

And every step forward is made possible by people who believe in this mission.
Your support helps families write their next chapter. Whether it’s a one-time gift or ongoing support, every donation strengthens our ability to provide the housing, resources, and guidance families need to move forward.

This National Nonprofit Day, consider investing in a future where every family has the opportunity to thrive. https://shorturl.at/3vGUI
