Winston Churchill once said “You make a living by what you get. You make a life by what you give.” I have had the privilege and honor to run for the office of County Executive of Frederick County with a desire to create One Frederick, united in pursuing prosperity for all. My campaign was supported by many great community leaders, caring residents, family, and friends who dedicated their time, talent, and financial resources in support of our vision for the future of Frederick County. Though our campaign was not supported by a majority of the Frederick County voters, we are still winners as we finished a tough campaign hindered by COVID-19, the passing of my oldest sister and the freak accident that resulted in the tearing of my Quadricep Tendon. Team Boffman, I thank you for believing in our vision and fighting to the end.
Congratulations to both Kai Hagen and Jessica Fitzwater for running a positive campaign as our citizens deserve candidates that focus on the issues and concerns, not bitter, confrontational campaign tactics that results in greater division. We are all winners as we gave the residents of Frederick County three great choices for County Executive.
Congratulations Jessica Fitzwater for receiving the voters’ choice and voice for leading our great County into the future. We must all get behind Jessica to ensure her success in the General Election so we can continue our climb to the top of the list of best places to live in the United States.
In the absence of recognition from other County sources, I would like to acknowledge the extreme growth in diversity of candidates during this election season. For the first time in the 275-year history of Frederick County, we have had diversity in nearly every level of County office with thirteen African Americans, two Latinas, and at least four members of the LGBTQ+ community deciding to fight for a chance to lead our County. We also had women running in all but two County offices (Sheriff and State’s Attorney). In addition, I thank my fellow military veterans for continuing their desire to serve through elected office. Diversity is to be celebrated.
I thank God for blessing me with the talent, gifts and experience combined with the heart to serve. I thank my beautiful wife Maria Boffman for being my ever-present support and the true love of my life. Thanks, Willie Wright, for agreeing to serve as our campaign treasurer. I am blessed with family that stood by me until the end and a wonderful team of senior advisors and volunteers. Last but not least, thank you to all of the voters who exercised their right and responsibility to vote for the future leaders of our State and County. Democrats let us show up and make our vote our voice in November! Daryl A. Boffman
