Benefits of supervised visitation and monitored exchanges

Supervised Visits and Monitored Exchanges are designed to ensure that a child can have safe contact with a non-custodial parent without being involved in parent conflicts. Supervised Visits and Monitored Exchanges allow the children to maintain a safe relationship with their parents without the stress of worrying about what is going to happen. The custodial parent can feel comfortable allowing their children to have contact with their non-custodial parent, and feel confident about the child's safety without having to communicate or have contact with a person with whom they are in conflict.

Supervised Visitation VS Therapeutic supervised visitation VS Reunification Therapy

Supervised Visitation: The purpose of supervised visits is to enable an ongoing relationship between the non-custodial parent and child by having an impartial third party observing their contact in a safe and structure environment. Standard supervised visitation monitors the interaction to ensure safety, while therapeutic supervised visitation guides (when needed) the interaction between the parent and child.

Therapeutic supervised visitation (TSV): TSV is conducted by a mental health professional who is trained to intervene and correct unsafe or negative behavior, therefore teaching the parent appropriate parenting skills. TSV should not be a replacement for reunification therapy. TSV does not assist in the goal of achieving a healthy relationship between the non-custodial parent and the child, TSV is designed to teach healthy parenting skills.

Reunification therapy/family therapy: The goal is to reintroduce a parent back into a child’s life in a safe, controlled, and therapeutic environment. The process of reunification therapy can be a long process but is designed to create a new and secure bond with one another under the close supervision of a clinician.
