Are you worried about accidentally getting that Argentinian mystery meat at Walmart? Go to Call’s Meat Market in Hurricane! I stopped by last night and got some ground beef that came from either right here in Putnam or down the road in Cabell, raised by kids for the fair auctions!

I’m pretty mad I didn’t realize the pie on the right was peanut butter until I looked at these pictures. They have single slices for sale as well!

Same prices on steaks I saw at Walmart and better quality. They’ve got a deal for $6.99/lb 90/10 ground sirloin today too!

While you’re there grab the red label Lem’s Meat Varnish, it’s one of my favorite barbecue sauces, a perfect sweet Heat and also another local business!

Spaghetti dinner turned out pretty dang good, knowing it’s about as local as possible!

Shop local, eat local!

Tonight we had a fantastic turnout at the County Commission meeting where Putnam United presented their resolution to the commission. One speaker’s message stood out to me:

He looked at the audience and let them know that they actually have a duty to the gentlemen in office. I know, we elect them and pay their salaries so that’s odd right?

We do. Another quote from a local mentor that ties in with this exactly: democracy requires participants.

That doesn’t mean we must all be willing to put our name on a ballot, it means we all have a duty to be involved.

In my 9-5 I talk to customers all the time that are upset and want us to credit their bill for their service being down but I have to explain to them they never let us know there was a problem to give us an opportunity to fix it.

It clicked, that’s the exact same thing that our government requires of us and tonight gave me an example of this working.

Last month I was at the commission meeting pointing at their use of opioid settlement funds to purchase Flock cameras and yet they denied requests for nearly 1/10th of that money for life saving medicines. I told them if they can’t spend it appropriately then we need to appoint a board made up of the community to spend it.

Today they announced $250k of settlement funds were pledged to go to a program at Marshall that won’t be moving forward. There will now be an application process for nonprofits to apply for portions of that money. It will also go to a totally separate board for approval designed to make sure the funds are distributed appropriately.

I will go to bed this evening knowing for a FACT that we CAN make a difference.

It requires participation though.

Showing up will always be the first step to change, tonight I’m damn proud of Putnam County for doing just that!

Show up, be loud, maybe even make a meme or two because apparently public shaming of elected officials’ actions greases some wheels.

Here is a link to the meeting recording if anyone would like to listen, I’ll be going back through for what I missed during the executive meeting.

I spoke last and gave them a break, leaving with a reminder that 105 years ago today, the government took the side of large coal companies against the WV citizens they were supposed to represent. This resulted in the Battle of Blair Mountain, in which we saw WV citizens attacked with machine guns and what would’ve been the first instance of the United States being bombed by airplane if not for the atrocities in Tulsa just months prior.

All because they wanted to organize against an unjust system designed to extract value from their back breaking labor, resources from OUR state, and ship it somewhere else for someone else to get rich off of. The same story that is happening today with both Valley North and AI data centers.

Join us Tuesday at 5:00! No worry if you’re a bit late because public comment has been after the rest of business lately and there should be plenty of speakers so there will be time!

We stopped by the shelter to drop off some donations and walk a few fur babies!

She asked to see the deaf baby Casper and we got the great news that he had left that morning to his forever home!!!

We took out Boomer and Lilly for a bit of sun and to stretch their legs. Boomer reminds of my dog named Chewie, they both do their business and help with landscaping. I was literally jumping out of the way of the dirt and grass this man was slinging 😂

Lilly would’ve probably come home if she was a bit nicer around cats, they tested her and she’s not a fan. She’s just a big sweet blockhead and somehow pulling harder on the leash than Boomer did. I sponsored Lilly’s adoption a few months ago so she’s totally free to come and take home!

Unfortunately we didn’t get any pictures of him but they’ve also got the absolute sweetest, big old tomcat named Poppy (or Papi, didn’t ask his ethnicity). This guy was so snuggly even though he looks tough enough to eat nails, stick your hand in the cage and he will flop around his entire body for pets and love.

Like Lilly there are plenty of sponsored pets that you can take home for free today! There were at least a dozen names on the dog list, come down and see if any of them are the perfect match for your family!

Here is a link to the shelter’s Amazon wishlist, you can order things straight from here and it will be delivered right to them! If you’ve got any extra cleaning supplies, towels/blankets, or even an old cat carrier they will gladly accept them! If you aren’t in this area very often but you know you’ll see me, I’ll gladly take them over since I live only 15 minutes away.

Last weekend the kids talked us into turning their play date into a sleepover so we had to take advantage and have a brunch date!

We went to Bubbarino’s in Hurricane and that was by far the best choice we could’ve made. We had amazing service from Haley, the food came out lightning fast.

We started with bacon cheese fries, which were half off for a happy hour special! They’re served with queso cheese and might just be the best cheese fries in the Valley. They also have the best ranch, with little parmesan cheese sprinkled at the bottom!

She went with a pulled pork sandwich with tater tots and I had to try the sandwich because I realized I’d never had it before. Seriously one of the best barbecue sandwiches I’ve had and didn’t even need any of the sauce on the side, great flavor!

I ordered chicken and waffles off the brunch menu and I can’t tell you how many times I heard “oh man I should’ve ordered that” while I was cutting her off her own bites 😂

If you ever went to Adelphia’s when they had their brunch buffet these waffles taste like they did. A bit of crunch and a sweetness to them. Fresh, boneless chicken breast and your choice of side.

I had to talk her down from going back for the chicken and waffles the next day. We focused on finishing my plate and Haley noticed she had more than half of her sandwich left and thought there was something wrong. Nope, the chicken and waffles were just too dang good!

Again, this is my endorsement of the food and local Putnam County establishment and not the other way around! What other Putnam County staples should I spotlight and review next?

Stop by Bub’s for brunch (and regular menu) today from 10:30-2:00!

Well folks we did it, the Flock cameras in Rock Branch are both gone, all that’s left is the gas line next to it! I hope it was the county that took them down, otherwise I’m pretty sure we owe $2k to replace them 😂

If you wanna try and get your signs back they should be at the DOH garage!

I wonder if Morrisey got free AI use tokens as part of the deal to sell out the whole state to big tech with HB2014?

This is all garbage information with a garbage presentation from a garbage leader who is waging war on poor people at every chance.

Give them the damn clothing vouchers Pat.
