Last night, September 8, the Washington Parish Republican Executive Committee held its endorsement meeting at the Washington Parish Courthouse.

As Republicans, we remain committed to the principles of limited government, fiscal responsibility, public safety, individual liberty, strong families, and accountable leadership. After careful consideration, the Committee voted to make the following endorsements:

• United States Senate — Julia Letlow
• U.S. Representative, 5th Congressional District — Michael Echols
• District Judge, Division E — Cameron Mary
• District Judge, Division G — Amanda Trosclair and Angelina Valuri
• District Judge, Division H — Luke Lancaster
• Bogalusa City Court Judge — Judge David Merlin Duke
• Washington Parish School Board, District 4 — Tate Kennedy
• Washington Parish School Board, District 5 — Ellen Taylor
• Washington Parish School Board, District 6 — Scott Breland
• Bogalusa School Board, District 6 — Dr. Marie Gomez Goff
• Constable, Ward 1 — Lee E. Davis
• Constable, Ward 2 — Randall W. Garcia

We appreciate each candidate who stepped forward to serve and participate in this process. The Washington Parish Republican Executive Committee will continue working to support strong conservative leadership and encourage informed participation in our elections.

Last night was a tremendous evening for the Washington Parish Republican Party as we gathered for our annual Leadership Dinner and had the honor of welcoming Louisiana Lt. Governor Billy Nungesser as our guest speaker.

Lt. Governor Nungesser delivered an outstanding message about Louisiana, leadership, and the opportunities ahead for our state. We are grateful for his friendship, his service, and for taking the time to join Republicans from across Washington Parish for such a special evening.

One of the highlights of the night was presenting Maria McBurney with our Outstanding Republican of the Year Award. Maria represents the kind of commitment, hard work, and dedication that strengthens our party and our community, and this recognition was very well deserved.

Most importantly, last night demonstrated the strength of the Republican Party here in Washington Parish. When good people come together around shared principles, strong leadership, and a commitment to serving their community, we can accomplish great things.

Thank you to Lt. Governor Nungesser, Maria McBurney, everyone who helped make the evening possible, and everyone who attended and supported our Washington Parish Republican Party.

A great night for Washington Parish and a great night for Louisiana Republicans!

Washington Parish Republican Party Endorses John Young for Public Service Commissioner

The Washington Parish Republican Party Executive Committee has announced its endorsement of John Young for Public Service Commissioner. We were impressed with John’s history of managing major public systems through multiple severe weather events. He is the only candidate to oversee critical utility operations during five major storms, and he demonstrated steady judgment and the ability to keep essential services functioning under extreme pressure. When he was displeased with the speed of one utility’s storm recovery response, he challenged the company’s leadership directly, called for an investigation into their planning, and took to the airwaves to force them into action. That’s a clarion call for accountability, and he proved he has the courage to do it.

John’s strong background in law gives him another significant advantage. His deep understanding of the complex legal and regulatory matters that routinely come before the Public Service Commission will serve us well. As the only attorney in the race, John will be an asset to all of the parishes in his district on legal matters dealing with utilities.

John’s experience as a former Parish President includes managing a workforce of more than 3,000 employees and consistently balancing a budget exceeding $600 million, along with responsibility for more than $3 billion in total assets. This level of executive management places him on par with top utility‑sector leadership, providing firsthand insight into how large organizations plan, invest, and meet their obligations to the public. At the same time, his long record of fiscal restraint reflects a commitment to protecting ratepayers and maintaining affordability.

The Washington Parish Republican Party Executive Committee believes that John Young’s combination of crisis management, legal expertise, and large‑scale operational leadership is essential for anyone tasked with overseeing critical public utilities and ensuring reliable, affordable service for families and businesses.
