Franklinton Fire & Rescue "Protecting Life and Property since 1929" History of the Franklinton Fire Department:
Before 1921 fire fighting was done mostly by bucket brigade. Cubic C. Mr.

In April 1929, civic leader Paul E. Greenlaw made the first effort to organize a fire department. Simmons was the first fire chief and Dr. T.C.W. Magee was the secretary. Greenlaw donated a truck to haul the equipment. Enough town support was gained to erect five or six small houses in the business section. These houses were used to store the two wheel carts of fire hose. Others included in this e

arly group of fire fighters were: Fred Bateman, Odgen Doremus and Vic McKenzie. In approximately 1933, a disastrous fire almost destroyed the business section of Franklinton. The fire department of Bogalusa saved the town. In 1934, throughout the efforts of Mr. Paul E. Greenlaw, our modern fire department was organized. A tax of 5 mills (two for the fire department and three for water works) was passed in 1934. George Varnado was appointed Fire Chief. Varnado and Mr. Bryan Fussell went to Logansport, Indiana to accept delivery of the fire truck. At the time of the purchase Mr. L.O. Torregrossa was mayor and Mr. C.J. Gayer, P.N. Givens, Geo. Brown, W.E. Magee, and Robert W. Bateman were council members. Bateman and Mr. Magee still reside in Franklinton and Mr. Givens in Bogalusa. In 1947 a second truck, a Chevrolet, was purchased. In 1950 a fire station and city hall was completed. Currently in 2022, the depart has 16 serving members, 4 engines, 2 rescue units, 1 ladder truck, 1 tanker, and 1 brush truck. The eight bay station holds, its engines and utility trucks. It also has a large meeting/training room, kitchen, and offices, and has the capabilities to dispatch its units. https://www.townoffranklinton.com/blank-page-6

Alright folks, we are down to the wire. We are desperately in need of donations to get the Baby Box installed . We have received the box and all the necessary items for the box to go live, we just need the communities help in getting the funds raised to get this box installed. We have an amazing contractor way below costs, we are so thankful for. We are so excited to get this up and running. If you believe every child deserves a chance please help!!

A firefighter working a 48/96 schedule works:

* 48 hours on duty
* followed by 96 hours off duty
* repeating every 6 days

Annual Hours Calculation

365 days in a year:

365 \ 6= 60.83 work cycles per year

Each cycle includes 48 work hours:

60.83 x 48 = 2,920 hours per year (approximately) an

Total Annual Hours

365\6 x 48 = 2920

A firefighter on a standard 48/96 schedule works approximately 2,920 hours per year before accounting for:

* vacation time
* sick leave

For comparison:

* A typical 40-hour/week employee works about 2,080 hours per year
* A 48/96 firefighter works about 840 more hours annually than a standard employee.

Thanks to member from Washington Parish Distract 4, Lee Road fire and the Washington Parish Sheriffs office for coming out and training with us today we strive to always better our training every day and this is one for the books!

From Fire Chief Brandon LaSalle…Saturday April 18th we will be hosting a Search and Rescue training at Bogue Chitto State Park. This will involve law enforcement and first responders in the area, as well as emergency vehicles and personnel throughout the park. The training includes different emergency scenarios involving search and rescue through different terrains and landscapes. We know the park is a place many Washington Parish residents and guests from surrounding areas come to enjoy the outdoors and we do not want to cause any unnecessary alarm. We apologize in advance for any inconvenience this may cause but these trainings are necessary to ensure we are always prepared for any situation to serve our Parish residents.
