Heard County Old Jail The Old Heard County Jail is located in downtown Franklin, Georgia and houses a museum of local artifacts and a genealogical library.

Heard County Jail is located on Court Square and Shady Lane in Franklin, Georgia. Built in 1912, the building served as a jail and housing for the Sheriff and his family until 1964. It was placed on the National Registry of Historic Places in 1980 and restored largely by the Heard County Historical Society in 1987.

The Heard County Historical Society invites the public to bid on the art work of Mr. Lonnie Bell currently on display at the Old Jail Museum on Tuesdays and Thursdays between 10am and 12pm and 1am and 5am through December 11, 2018. Lonnie Bell was a well-known rural artist in Heard County (1919-2001).

The Old Jail is located at 161 Shady Street in downtown Franklin. For more information , please call 706-675-6507.

The Heard County Historical Society meets every third Thursday of the month from April-December with various speakers and programs.
