These kits are such an important resource for supporting individuals with autism, sensory processing sensitivities, or those experiencing a behavioral health crisis. These tools are incredibly vital for supporting individuals with sensory needs and creating a more inclusive, compassionate crisis response in our community. We appreciate your hard work! 💙👏 Thank you for your dedication to mental health, crisis de-escalation, and inclusive care in Western Tidewater! 💙

🚨Public Notice🚨

On Wednesday, August 26, 2026, at approximately 3:30 p.m., the Franklin Communications Center received a report of an altercation at the Walmart located at 1500 Armory Drive.

Initial information indicated that one of the individuals involved had brandished a r***e. As additional calls were received, the Communications Center was also advised that a caller had heard a loud bang but could not confirm whether it was a gunshot.

The Franklin Police Department, assisted by the Southampton County Sheriff’s Office, Town of Courtland Police Department, and the Virginia State Police responded to the scene.

Upon arrival, officers determined that no shots had been fired and that both parties involved had left the area.

We appreciate the assistance of our law enforcement partners and the public’s cooperation while officers responded to and investigated the incident.

At this time, there is no indication of an ongoing threat to the public.

A big thank you to Franklin Department of Parks & Recreation for inviting the Franklin Police Department and Franklin Fire and Rescue to share lunch with the amazing kids at Kids Camp during Heroes Week!

We had a great time enjoying lunch, meeting so many wonderful campers, and spending time talking, laughing, and making memories together. Opportunities like these help build positive relationships and remind us what a great community we have.

Thank you to the Parks & Recreation staff for organizing such a fun week and for including us. We appreciate all you do for the children and families of Franklin!
