ST. MARY PARISH AGRICULTURE PRODUCERS, LAND OWNERS AND PARISH RESIDENTS. You are invited to attend both the St. Mary Soil and Water Conservation District's (SWCD) annually held Locally Led Conservation meeting and the regular monthly meeting being held consecutively on March 18th starting at 11:30 am. The regular meeting will start at noon. These meetings will be held in the conference room, Blevins Building 600 Main Street, Franklin. At the Locally Led meeting, you will be able to vote on local resource concerns. Your vote will help determine and prioritize federal conservation at the local level. The LSU AgCenter will be offering an opportunity to earn Agricultural Prescribed Burn Manager Certification from the Louisiana Department of Agriculture & Forestry (LDAF). Those wishing to attend the educational session may include farmers, cattlemen, landowners and land managers, as well as those assisting with controlled burns and anyone planning to use fire as an agricultural land management technique.

The St. Mary SWCD is planning an oak tree clean up day this Monday September 23rd…If you would like to participate please give me a call so that we can come up with a game plan. 337-578-3383…..this is a worthwhile project! The St Mary SWCD office is back open. We hope everyone weathered the storm with little or no damage from hurricane Francine. Now on to the clean up process. If you have any needs that we can possibly help with please contact us. 337-828-0493
NRCS is in the process of implementing Emergency Watershed Protection (EWP).
Municipalities may be eligible for fanicanal assistance for debris removal in areas affecting drainage.

The St Mary Soil and Water Conservation District will conduct a Marsh Grass planting in effort to help slow costal erosion. The location and date will be at Burns Point on May 15….we hope that we can partner with local agencies and volunteers in our efforts. This location should only take one day of planting.
We will off load plants starting at 8:00 AM then proceed out to the planting sight. Please let me know if I can count on your help 578-3383. You DO NOT have to get in the water…plenty other things you can do to help us!
