RAFFLE BENEFIT FOR INJURED LOCAL FIREMAN

On April 10th, our brother Chase Dile responded with the Glasgow Fire Department as mutual aid to a large residential structure fire in Barren County, KY. While operating inside the fire, Chase sustained severe burns to his body and was flown to TriStar Medical Center in Nashville. Chase has gone through surgery and is currently recovering while receiving further treatment.

Chase is a first year firefighter and recently came on shift after graduating from the Kentucky Fire Academy. Along with recent graduation, Chase also recently married his wife, Brianna. To support them both during this unfortunate time, we’re asking to participate in our fundraising raffle. Workers Comp will help cover may aspects of Chase’s recovery, however we are looking to cover other costs including hotel, fuel, bills, etc. All proceeds coming from this raffle will go directly towards supporting the Dile family.

This raffle is open to all FOOLS and non-FOOLS members. Tickets are $5 each or $25 for 6. Winners will be drawn May 1st at 7 PM. The first draw will be for the Council Tool 30D Halligan. Thank you Steve!

Today at the Capitol, the House Committee on Licensing, Occupations, & Administrative Regulations advanced HB 565, legislation clarifying local fire enforcement authority, with a favorable report.

The bill provides technical clean-up legislation that passed last year, establishing the local fire appeals board process and clarifying that a "fire protection official" - including the State Fire Marshal, a local fire chief, a fire marshal employed by a local government, or a local appeals board - has clear authority to enforce final orders issued under Kentucky's fire protection laws. HB 565 also allows fire protection officials to seek restraining orders or injunctions when necessary to prevent or correct violations.

Representative Myron Dossett (R-Pembroke), KLC Director of Government Affairs Gracie Kelly, and Fire Chief of Paducah Fire Department Steve Kyle testified in support of the measure.

HB 565 now heads to the House floor. For more information about the bill, see below:

FRANKFORT, KY – A bill sponsored by House Majority Caucus Chair Suzanne Miles that aims to strengthen the Kentucky Fire Commission and provide more funding for firefighter health passed the House Standing Committee on Veterans, Military Affairs, and Public Protection on Tuesday.

House Bill (HB) 419 proposes to increase the Kentucky Fire Commission from 14 to 18 members. The additional seats would grant voting privileges to key fire service organizations—including the Kentucky Firefighters Association, the Kentucky Professional Firefighters, and the Kentucky Association of Fire Chiefs—as well as the president of the Kentucky Community and Technical College System (KCTCS).

Rep. Miles said the change is crucial for aligning educational initiatives with industry needs.

“The Kentucky Fire Commission is critical in shaping our firefighter workforce and ensuring that firefighter education, training, certification, and standards meet the needs of communities across the Commonwealth,” said Miles. “Granting the Kentucky Community and Technical College System president and other key firefighter organizations voting privileges would help ensure greater alignment between educational initiatives and industry needs.”

The legislation also includes a significant provision for firefighter health. HB 419 would allow any excess, unused funds from the Firefighters Foundation Program—originally earmarked for Hepatitis A and B inoculations—to be redirected to reimburse firefighters for out-of-pocket expenses related to cancer screenings.

"Our firefighters are heroes who risk their lives each day to protect Kentuckians across the Commonwealth," Miles added. "Ultimately, we want to make sure that every available dollar in the Firefighters Foundation Program fund goes toward initiatives and services that directly benefit Kentucky firefighters."

The bill will now move to the full House of Representatives for consideration.
