Macon County Democratic Party

Macon County Democratic Party To inform the residents of Macon County, North Carolina about candidates for political office.

Democrats care about all people, our environment, equal opportunity for everyone, free and fair elections, truth, and justice. The Macon County Democratic Party takes pride in being
part of America’s oldest political party. As Democrats, we
believe that government should serve the people and that
in so doing, it should be open and fair, improving our lives
and creating opportunity for all. In orde

r to strengthen our
democracy, we believe that all citizens should be able to
participate in an economy that provides first and foremost
for the basic human needs of food, shelter, personal
safety, adequate health care, worthwhile employment and
educational opportunity. We take pride in our democratic heritage as a party of
spiritual and patriotic values; a party of inclusiveness; a
party of diversity; a party of compassion; a party of social
justice; and, a party of responsible leadership. This Party fully supports the sanctity of the Bill of Rights
and opposes any frivolous or malicious amendments to the
Constitution. This Party shall provide an avenue for the free and open
expression of diverse ideas and opinions, including the
right of every person to dissent. It shall work to promote
government which is responsive to the legitimate needs,
interests, and aspirations of every man, woman, and child
in a manner which does not diminish human dignity or those
fundamental rights, which are the birthright of all people of
a free and democratic nation. We, the Macon County Democrats, seize this agenda and
vigilantly defend our historic democratic heritage. We will
not abdicate our historic role as the Party of action and the
Party of progress in this county, state, and nation, for the
lives and the livelihoods of its people are our sacred trust. Democrats stand for an abiding faith in the judgment of hardworking American families, and a commitment to helping the excluded, the disenfranchised and the poor strengthen our nation by earning themselves a piece of the American Dream. We remember that our country was sculpted by immigrants and slaves, their children and grandchildren. Even today, it is our diversity above all else that provides us with our enduring strength. Democrats believe that each of us has an obligation to each other, to our neighbors and our communities. Each of us has a role to play in creating our future—and while we have made great progress as a nation, we know that our work is never done.

Amazing contrast in the decisions by the conservative justices from 2020 to now. How are they under the thumb of MAGA. Are they being threatened? They used to rule more rationally.

Redistricting Info Session
Sign up for either the Monday night or Thursday day session! Macon County is evaluating new district maps that will impact the make up of the Board of County Commissioners. The current map has been in existence for 50 years. Any new map that is selected will likely be in effect for decades. It's important that the public weigh in on these maps to ensure equal representation and accountability. Some of the options being considered are unfair and under-represent areas of our county. Dr. Amy Patterson has offered to explain the current process and the map options being considered through an information session. The Planning Board is having a meeting on July 2 at 5 p.m. It is likely they will make a recommendation for one of these maps at that meeting. It's critical that the public attend this meeting, give public comments on redistricting and send letters to county commissioners regarding this topic.
