🌟🎣 The third annual Macon County Sheriff’s Office Fishing Tournament was a huge success! 🎣🌟

We are incredibly thankful for all the generous donations for the raffles and for everyone—fishermen, fisher ladies, and supporters—who showed up today to make this event special. It was a beautiful day filled with fish, family, fun, fellowship, and delicious food! 🐟❤️

On June 4, 2026, deputies with the Macon County Sheriff's Office Criminal Interdiction Unit were patrolling US 64 West when they observed a vehicle commit a traffic violation. Following a traffic stop, deputies conducted a search that resulted in the seizure of illegal narcotics.

As a result of the investigation, Zackary Ryan Rich was arrested and charged with:

• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver a Schedule IV Controlled Substance
• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver a Schedule I Controlled Substance
• Possession with Intent to Manufacture, Sell, and Deliver Fentanyl
• Maintaining a Vehicle/Dwelling Place for a Controlled Substance
• Possession of Drug Paraphernalia
• Carrying a Concealed Weapon
• Altering/Removing a Firearm Serial Number

Rich was issued a secured bond of $75,000.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office recently participated in an advanced SWAT training course hosted by Southwestern Community College alongside several partnering agencies.

This specialized training focused on strengthening tactical response capabilities, improving communication between agencies, and preparing personnel for high-risk critical incidents. By training together in realistic scenarios, officers are able to build coordination, enhance decision-making under pressure, and ensure a unified response during emergencies.

Multi-agency training plays a vital role in public safety by allowing departments to develop strong working relationships and improve interoperability before real-world situations occur. Continuous advanced training helps ensure officers remain prepared, professional, and ready to respond effectively when the community needs them most.

Jonathan David Hunter has been sentenced to a minimum of 225 months (18.75 years) in prison following a narcotics investigation conducted by the Macon County Sheriff’s Office with assistance from the Franklin Police Department.

On September 9, 2024, investigators executed a search warrant at a residence in Macon County. During the search, law enforcement recovered approximately 1.4 kilograms of methamphetamine along with two fi****ms.

Hunter was convicted of:
• Trafficking Methamphetamine Level III
• Possession of a Firearm by a Felon

In addition to the prison sentence, Hunter was ordered to pay a $250,000 fine.

The Macon County Sheriff’s Office remains committed to aggressively pursuing illegal drug activity and protecting the citizens of Macon County.
