🚨 PUBLIC SERVICE ANNOUNCEMENT🚨

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office wants to make the public aware of a fraudulent traffic/court notice scam currently circulating.

Citizens may receive what appears to be an official court document claiming to be from the State of Georgia, Fulton County State Court, or another government agency regarding an alleged traffic violation, unpaid toll, parking citation, or court default judgment. These notices may include:
• Threats of immediate legal action
• Claims that your driver’s license or vehicle registration will be suspended
• Demands for immediate payment
• QR codes directing you to pay online
• Warnings involving collections, credit damage, or Social Security information

⚠️ THIS IS A SCAM.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office urges residents to NOT scan the QR code, click any links, call suspicious numbers listed on the document, or send payment.

Important Reminders:
• Legitimate courts and law enforcement agencies do not demand immediate payment through QR codes or suspicious notices.
• Official court matters should always be verified directly through the clerk of court or the appropriate court’s official website or publicly listed phone number.
• Scammers often create documents that look very convincing by using official seals, case numbers, judge names, and legal code references.

What You Should Do:

✅ Do not respond to the notice
✅ Do not send money or provide personal information
✅ Verify any citation or court case through official government channels

If you receive one of these notices, you do NOT have to make a police report.

Please share this warning with family, friends, and elderly loved ones. Scammers rely on fear and urgency to trick people into paying money they do not owe.

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Heard County Sheriff’s Office Urges Public to Be on the Lookout for ATV Thefts and Residential Burglaries to Secure Their Property

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office is alerting residents about a recent increase in thefts involving all-terrain vehicles (ATVs) and is urging the community to take extra precautions to secure their property.

Over the past several weeks, our office has received multiple reports of stolen ATVs from residential properties, barns, and unsecured garages. In many cases, the vehicles were taken during the night or early morning hours. Authorities believe these thefts are part of a growing trend targeting rural and suburban areas.

The Heard County Sheriff’s Office encouraging everyone to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activity to local authorities.

Safety Tips for Residents:
• Lock all doors and windows to homes, garages, sheds, and outbuildings, even when you’re home.
• Store ATVs and other equipment in a secured area and use heavy-duty locks and chains if possible.
• Install motion-activated lighting and surveillance cameras around your property.
• Do not leave keys in ATVs or other vehicles, even if they are parked on private property.
• Record serial numbers and take photographs of valuable equipment for identification.
• Report all suspicious activity immediately to local law enforcement.

Community cooperation is critical in preventing theft and helping to identify suspects. If you see something out of the ordinary or have any information related to these thefts, please contact the Heard County Sheriff’s Office or call 911 in case of an emergency.

Let’s work together to keep our community safe and secure.

FRAUD ALERT!!!!!!

THIS POST WAS UPDATED DUE TO THE NUMEROUS AND VARIOUS SCAMS TAKING PLACE IN THE COMMUNITY.

First a few things when to consider:
- If you don't know the person you are dealing with, then don't deal with them. If you get a call from someone saying you've done something wrong and there are threats for arrests...STOP. Don't talk with them. If there are arrest warrant for you, you most likely already know this. If you are not sure, contact your local law enforcement agency and ask.

- It sounds like a good deal...but it really isn't. If it sounds like you are going to get money by giving someone money, then you have been taken. Don't be taken by those scammers who ask you to put a check in your account and then buy green dot cards or any other credit card. They will usually ask you to send them the information on the card including the pin number, then take all this money from you. Keep in mind that some of these are done by email scams, and mailers. Remember if it sounds to good then IT REALLY ISN"T.

- Your personal information is sacred. Do not give it to just anyone who sounds official. Verify, first. If it sounds like someone from your bank, then call your bank to verify. If it's from a bank or credit card, there is almost always a 1-800 number to call to find out if the call is real.

- SOCIAL MEDIA...the same applies here. When purchasing items from market place or any other website, verify before you buy...or send money. Also, arrange a meet up at a safe location, such as the Sheriff's Office or City Police Department where there are camera's to monitor the transaction.

- The Sheriff's Office or Police Departments do not solicit for money. A lot of scams are from persons impersonating officials. Again, verify before to send money of any type or for any reason.

- Calls coming from valid numbers. Recently persons have been getting calls from number that are valid. However, the caller has no association with that number or business. If you receive a call from a valid number and you are not sure of who it is, tell them you will call back to verify.

AGAIN, IF IT SOUNDS TOO GOOD>>>THEN IT IS PROBABLY NOT!!!
