🌟 Share Your Story 🌟

We would like to share a story we received recently from one of our former residents, Jonathan Mullins!

"Hello, my name is Jonathan Mullins. I attended STAR from December 2022 to May 2023. I went from the Franklin Furnace campus and finished out my sentence at the Nelsonville facility. My older brother is Paul Patrick, who also went through there and speaks there as well. When I went to STAR, I had already made up my mind that I was going to stay sober when I came home, and I have stuck to that word. I have been sober for 3 years, 3 months, and 17 days! Coming home from STAR, I was a bit lost. I had a girlfriend, a daughter, and a stepson who needed me to step up. My girlfriend and I were both in addiction and trying to get/stay sober before STAR, but with many hiccups. Since I made up my mind, I was staying sober when I came home. I told her it was either we do this together, or I’m going to continue this sober journey on my own. She relapsed while I was in STAR, but promised me she would stay sober when I got home, and she has. When I came home, I lived with my parents for a while until I figured out my path. During that time, we started attending AA meetings and church. I got a sponsor, and I worked the steps. I now sponsor others, and we are very involved in our church. My lady is now the lead singer of our worship band as well. I prayed about what path I should take, and God sent me into working in treatment. I got a job at a place I went to for treatment years prior, for a few months before finding the right place for me called Sunrise Recovery. Since working there, I have obtained my peer support, and I’m a case manager, as well as a qualified mental health specialist. I have gotten several promotions and serve now as the lead of housing operations. I get to be involved in AA and take guys to meetings, help them through life’s struggles, help them get their kids back, and watch them grow every day. It gives me so much purpose in my life. We now have a house we get to call our own, my daughter is in preschool and excelling, and my stepson is doing great in his schooling and sports. I recently proposed to my girlfriend, and she is now my fiancée, so we are planning a wedding! She is enrolled in college and starting her second semester towards becoming a social worker. I have all the material things like new motorcycles, vehicles, clothes, shoes, and all the good stuff. Most importantly, since getting sentenced to STAR, I have gotten my relationship with my family back. My parents trust me and see me as a man now instead of a broken, lost kid. They get to see both my brother and me sober at the same time. I now have a life far better than I could have ever dreamed of, and that is all thanks to God!

Thank you for your story, Mr. Mullins! 🏆
