Cub Scout Pack 101 Frankfort Square Cub Scout Pack 101 is located in Frankfort Square, IL. Our Pack is in the Ishkote District of the Rainbow Council, BSA.

We are chartered by Frankfort Square Park District and serve Cub Scouts from Summit Hill School District 161, including families in parts of Frankfort, IL, Mokena, IL, and Tinley Park, IL. Cub Scout Pack 101 is a Family Pack, serving boys and girls in Kindergarten through Grade 5 in Frankfort Square, Frankfort, Mokena, Tinley Park, and surrounding communities. How to Display the Flag at Half-Staff on September 11 to honor the victims of the 2001 attacks 🇺🇸

To raise and lower correctly:

First, hoist the flag briskly to the top of the pole, then slowly lower it to the half-staff position.

End of day protocol: At sunset, raise the flag back to the top of the pole before lowering it completely for the day.

House-mounted poles: If your home flagpole cannot be lowered, you do not need to change its position, or you can attach a black ribbon to the top of the pole as a symbolic gesture.

Illumination: If you keep the flag flying after dark, ensure it is properly illuminated. 🇺🇸

Ground under repair? ⛳️ Try nesting Killdeer! 😍

Many thanks to our friends at Frankfort Square Park District and Square Links Golf Course who are looking out for our visiting feathered friends!

Did you know?

Killdeer like to nest on the open ground, and LOVE golf courses. They are summer residents in our part of Illinois, and live downstate all year long. They are shorebirds that are easily recognizable by their two black breast bands and a loud "kill-dee" call.

From the National Audubon Society... Killdeer are federally protected in the United States under the Migratory Bird Treaty Act (MBTA) and are also covered by similar legislation in Canada. It is strictly illegal to kill, harm, possess, or move them, their eggs, or their active nests without official government permission. Because killdeer typically lay their camouflaged eggs on open ground (such as gravel, mulch, or lawns), their nests are frequently found in public parks, parking lots, and construction sites.

Wishing all a meaningful Memorial Day 🇺🇸

On Memorial Day, fly the U.S. flag at half-staff from sunrise until noon, then raise it to full staff for the remainder of the day until sunset, when the flag is then ceremoniously lowered. 🇺🇸

If your flag has seen better days, consider retiring it at a local Frankfort Square Park District collection site, including the main office, or Square Links Golf Course.

Great advice about Lake Michigan rip currents (see link) - yes, Lake Michigan is basically an ocean. No sharks, no salt, still need to be careful! 🏖️🛟

For folks on shore… don’t get into the rip current. Throw anything that floats… a cooler, a pool noodle, whatever you’ve got, and it’ll flow out to the distressed swimmer. They can use the items to stay afloat long enough until they can get to the side of the rip current to safely swim back to shore. 🌊
