Frankfort is big ideas and small town charm, historic buildings and civic sophistication. Frankfort, Kentucky was designated as a a town by the Virginia State Legislator in 1786. When Kentucky statehood followed in 1792, Frankfort had the privilege of becoming the capital of the new state. The City of Frankfort currently has a population of approximately 27,000. The Frankfort High School homecoming parade is ON for today! Please note, the parade kicks off on 4th and Ewing at 12:30, travels to Capital Avenue to 3rd Street, then 3rd Street ending at the FD Wilkinson Gym. This route will be blocked for approximately an hour and parade viewing is available on the sidewalks along the route. Go Panthers!

The Kentucky Heritage Council is now accepting proposals for educational sessions and student poster sessions at the 2027 Kentucky Historic Preservation Conference, taking place May 12–14, 2027, in Frankfort, Kentucky.

Under the theme Preserving Preservation: Leveraging Kentucky’s Historic Assets, the 2027 conference will explore how historic preservation can build vibrant communities while ensuring the long-term stewardship of the places and stories that shape them.

We invite proposals for engaging, relevant sessions that will appeal to a broad audience. We especially encourage proposals that highlight collaboration, innovation, community impact and practical application.

Sessions are 45 minutes in length. We welcome a variety of formats, including:

Presentations
Panel discussions
Workshops or demonstrations
Interactive sessions
