of 550 aircraft and performs about 85 percent of continental U.S. inland search and rescue missions as tasked by the Air Force Rescue Coordination Center and is credited by the AFRCC with saving an average of 70 lives annually. Civil Air Patrol’s 58,000 members nationwide also perform homeland security, disaster relief and drug interdiction missions at the request of federal, state and local agencies. Its members additionally play a leading role in aerospace education and serve as mentors to more than 24,000 young people currently participating in the CAP cadet program. REGISTRATION ENDS TOMORROW, JUNE 12--SLOTS STILL AVAILABLE FOR 2026 KYWG ENCAMPMENT

You still have time to sign up for the KYWG Encampment, running July 12-18, at the Wendell H. Ford Regional Training Center in Greenville, KY.

The purpose of the cadet encampment is for cadets to develop leadership skills, investigate the aerospace sciences and related careers, commit to a habit of regular exercise, and reinforce their moral character by living the core values.

This week-long immersion into the full challenges and opportunities of cadet life presents the five key traits of cadet life – the uniform, aerospace themes, opportunities to lead, challenge, and fun – in an intensive environment that moves cadets beyond their normal comfort zones for personal growth.

Encampment attendance correlates with cadet retention – cadets who go to encampment are more likely to renew than those who do not attend. Encampment graduates tend to advance through CAP (promote) at a faster rate than non-graduates.

In addition to encampment for new cadets, Kentucky is offering advanced encampment for those who have previously been to encampment and want a more involved study in leadership. Both will run concurrently the same week, in Greenville, KY.

New this year, Kentucky is also offering Adult Members the opportunity to participate as members of an adult flight, led by cadets. They will practice drill maneuvers, participate in physical training, the challenge course, rappel tower, and so much more!

If you have any questions or for further information, please speak with your squadron commander or contact the KYWG Encampment Commander, MSgt. Tucker, at: [email protected].

CADET’S CAP CAREER PREPARES HIM TO SERVE OUR COUNTRY

Congratulations to Civil Air Patrol Cadet Chief Master Sgt. G. Tharpe, from the Louisville Cadet Squadron, on receiving a $300,000 Marine Option NROTC scholarship to Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University. Cadet Tharpe plans to fly for the United States Marines before transitioning to a civilian pilot career.

The highly competitive NROTC scholarship covers full tuition and fees, preparing recipients to commission as military officers upon graduation. Civil Air Patrol helps cadets earn these prestigious awards by building exceptional leadership skills, providing early aviation exposure, and demanding high standards of physical fitness and character.

If you would like to learn more about the Louisville Cadet Squadron, please contact Lt. Todd Tharpe at [email protected].

One Day. Real Impact. This Is What Civil Air Patrol Does.

There are organizations that talk about serving their communities. Then there are organizations that show up — on weekdays, on weekends, on their own time — and actually do it. May 7, 2026 was one of those days for Civil Air Patrol’s 73rd Senior Squadron, Fort Thomas, KY.

At Lunken Airport, inner-city school children climbed into aircraft cockpits for the first time. For some, it was the moment that planted a seed — a future pilot, an aerospace engineer, a public servant who traces it all back to one Saturday morning when someone cared enough to show up. Civil Air Patrol volunteers gave up their morning to make that happen.

Across the river in Kentucky, one squadron member flew south to Fleming County High School (FCHS) Covered Bridge Cadet Squadron. After walking cadets through the principles of flight, four of them took to the air for orientation rides. Civil Air Patrol's mission isn’t divided by geographic boundaries — it grows by investing in the next generation.

Meanwhile at Lunken Airport, squadron members were participating in standout training sessions. A presentation on Crew Incapacitation sharpened the squadron's emergency services knowledge, and one member earned three ratings in a single day — sUAS Mission Pilot, Level II, and Mission Observer. New member boards ran in parallel, with mentors on hand to welcome the squadron's newest recruits. Civil Air Patrol holds its members to Air Force standards — and the Northern Kentucky Senior Squadron is rising to meet them.

This is what Civil Air Patrol looks like from the inside: professionals volunteering their expertise, experienced members mentoring the next generation, and an organization quietly doing work that most communities never see — until they need it.
