You can now report the drought conditions you’re seeing on your farm through the Condition Monitoring Observer Reports (CMOR) system. CMOR is a nationwide tool from the National Drought Mitigation Center at the University of Nebraska–Lincoln, developed in partnership with the National Integrated Drought Information System and USDA. Your report helps build the national picture of drought impacts. Your on‑the‑ground observations make a real difference. Share what you’re seeing and help strengthen drought monitoring across the country.

Important to protect and conserve what we have around us!

It takes over 100 years to form just 1 inch of topsoil.🌱📅

This rate depends on several factors, including parent rock material, climate and weathering conditions, organic material accumulation, vegetative cover and land use, and biological activity like worms, fungi, and microbes.

In areas with rich biological activity and moisture, topsoil might form in 100 years. In dry, cold, or heavily disturbed regions, it may take 500 to even 1000 years!

Soil is a living and slowly renewing resource. Protecting what we have is much easier than rebuilding what we lose.

This week is National Association of Conservation Districts’ (NACD's) Stewardship Week! We are celebrating the 71st Annual Stewardship Week with the theme “Soil. Where it All Begins” through Sunday, May 3. This year’s focus highlights soil as a living resource that supports food production, water quality, wildlife habitat, and healthy communities.

Throughout Stewardship Week, conservation districts across the United States are invited to participate in various ways to celebrate and promote these vital natural resources. Conservation districts play a central role in outreach and education, engaging with their communities through the NACD annual poster and photo contests, by hosting field days or educating students in their classrooms, and more.

If you would like to get involved with NACD Stewardship Week, it's not too late! You can find an array of free educational materials here to share with students and educators around you or participate virtually through social media with our toolkit of habitat posts and captions.
