I enjoyed speaking to the American Legion Kentucky Boys and Girls State delegates last week. These students are learning about civics and what it means to serve. I was grateful for the chance to share my story, the important work we do in the Auditor’s Office, and the role we play in promoting transparency, accountability, and good government. These bright young Kentuckians are well on their way to becoming the leaders of tomorrow.

The governor can point fingers at the General Assembly all he wants, but Kentucky's KTAP recipients, kinship caregivers, and children are the ones paying the price. It's more than a shame--it's a devastating loss and a failure of leadership. I have provided the Governor with numerous suggestions on how to make this funding possible. Without an unforeseen intervention — the organization is actively looking into emergency funding options — it will shutter on June 30.
