MARIA BARTHOLOMEU SHARED HER GIFTS OF TALENTS

Host Kiwanian Gary Johnson welcomed an impressive crowd to hear Maria Bartholomeu at our regular Kiwanis Club of Frankfort meeting.
Maria, a distinguished vocalist who performed opera in New York City, holds a double degree in music education and vocal performance from Kentucky State University (Class of ’95).

Beyond her musical achievements, Maria has devoted countless hours to service through First Christian Church, coordinating with ROSM and local food pantries to support families in need.

Maria was also recognized for her remarkable 27 years of leadership with the TRUE COLORS MUSIC CAMP, where she guided children through music, bucket drumming, hand chimes, crafts, and devotions—maintaining a strong enrollment of 40–45 children each year.

Congratulations to Maria Bartholomeu for her outstanding dedication, her passion for youth, and her unwavering commitment to our community.

REPRESENTATIVE ERIKA HANCOCK GUEST
SPEAKER AT LOCAL KIWANIS CLUB

The Kiwanis Club of Frankfort welcomed Representative Erika Hancock to a recent meeting to address issues and concerns that individuals might have that she could address. Representative Hancock was hosted by Kiwanian, Carol Banks.
The Representative addressed the Kiwanis Club regarding the legislative session’s impact on Frankfort and Franklin County , focusing in the financial challenges of being the state capital and the restructuring of Kentucky State University. Key discussions included the passage of Senate Bill 185, the necessity of addressing the statewide housing shortage, and the importance of maintaining healthcare access for rural populations.
Representative Hancock emphasized a commitment to bipartisan cooperation and prioritizing local economic stability over partisan interests. The club would like to thank Representative Erika Hancock for her leadership and visit to the Kiwanis Club of Frankfort.

BETTY SHEPHERD INSPIRING STORY


See, when members of Kiwanis miss a meeting, they truly miss out on outstanding speakers who inspire us with their talents, knowledge, and lived experiences. Recently, the Kiwanis Club of Frankfort had the privilege of hearing from Betty Shepherd — a gifted performer, playwright, and author whose works reflect the challenges she faced growing up and the resilience that shaped her journey.

Ms. Shepherd shared a powerful, heartfelt story that reminded us why Kiwanis gatherings matter: they connect us with people who lift our spirits, broaden our understanding, and encourage us to keep serving with purpose.

Thank you, Ms. Shepherd, for motivating our Frankfort Club with your courage, creativity, and leadership.

Kristie Powe, of the Frankfort , stopped by to share some details about their upcoming Kiwanis Celebrity Roast with Honorary Roastee Judge Executive Michael Mueller! Thursday, September 24 at Thorn Hill Learning Center from 5:30pm to 8:30pm and definitely not to be missed. Proceeds go to the Kiwanis that in turn go toward helping the children in our community!
