Happy Earth Day! Check out the on line opportunities to support The Conservation Foundation. The silent auction includes a guided photo hike led my me and my husband, Karen D'Arcy and Bruce Dumdei. We will visit Messenger Woods, a Will County Forest Preserve facility in Homer Glen. Following the hike Bruce will work with the winner to digitally process and print a photographic enlargement.

Wishing you and this big beautiful rock we call home a Happy Earth Day! 🌎

Protecting natural open spaces is crucial to saving the diversity of vibrant life on our planet--from radiant butterflies to woodlands bursting with spring wildflowers to fish swimming in rivers that flow through our neighborhoods.

This Chicago Tribune story very nicely quotes friend Cindy Harn and her discussion about the value of native plants in the landscape. Her group, The Nature Foundation, is hosting a native plant sale. The Nature Foundation is a local, non-profit that supports the Forest Preserve District of Will County. Plant natives and support your local insects.

When Cindy Harn started working at the Forest Preserve District of Will County in 2013, one of her first duties was to oversee the district’s initial native plant sale.

Giving Tuesday is a wonderful day to support our friends at The Conservation Foundation. You gift willbe matched by Facebook and the Hammil Family Foundation.

This year has shown us all how important nature is for our soul. This photo is at one of President/CEO Brook McDonald’s favorite preserves, Jay Woods in Kendall County. He's noticed many more people visiting Jay Woods and seeking a retreat in nature lately!

We would be honored to have your support in preserving and protecting open spaces like this one. Tomorrow is and this year is extra special for us! If you have been following along, you know we have a $75k match going on from the Hamill Family Foundation. We are so close to meeting our goal, and the Hamills have been inspired by the energy of our campaign and the spirit of giving this season! So, they have added $25,000 to our challenge!

Also, starting tomorrow at 7am (CST) Facebook will be matching donations made through our page. What does this mean for you? If you donate here, you will be TRIPLING your donation’s impact! Help us preserve and protect open spaces so future generations can enjoy nature the way we do.

A good message about waste and steps we can take to improve water quality in our local streams.

Pet waste spoils other’s enjoyment of the outdoors, degrades the water quality of local streams, and can be a public health hazard. That’s why it’s important we pick up the p**p every time, everywhere!

We know it can be a tough habit to break. And honestly piling them up for the kiddos is a good workout and so much fun for the family! But this year we encourage you to leave the leaves! For pollinators sake! Many important insects (pollinators like butterflies, bees, moths & more) take shelter in the leaves during the cold winter months! Want to learn more? (Or need to do some convincing for a friend or neighbor? 😉) We’ve got a great webinar on our YouTube channel about this, or here’s an article you can share: https://xerces.org/blog/leave-the-leaves
