What can fungi teach us about creativity? 🍄

Not every jazz residency begins with a scientific study.

2025 Jazz Road Creative grant recipient Sirintip Phasuk and her acclaimed quartet received nearly $40,000 in support for Mycelium Residency, a self-directed project inspired by scientific research on fungi and plankton.

Blending jazz, electronic, and orchestral music with scientific inquiry, the project explores unexpected connections between the natural world and creative expression, transforming complex ideas into experiences that spark curiosity and discovery.

Through Jazz Road Creative Residencies, South Arts supports artists in creating, exploring, and advancing their work on their own terms.
