At 13:56 on May 18, the Frankfort Fire Dept was dispatched to investigate reports of smoke coming from a house at 518 Fourth Ave Extension. Truck 404 arrived within minutes and confirmed the dispatch of smoke showing from the structure. Car 1 (Chief Matt Palumbo) declared a working kitchen fire and requested an engine company from Ilion FD and an ambulance from MOVAC as the resident suffered smoke inhalation. The Red Cross was also notified to assist the resident.
An aggressive interior attack stopped the fire from spreading throughout the building. The fire was declared under control shortly thereafter. Crews remained on scene performing overhaul for the next hour. All units were back in service at 16:30.

18 FFD personnel responded under the direction of Chief Palumbo in addition to the IFD and MOVAC crews.

We want to thank the Frankfort Power and Light personnel for cutting power to the building and keeping our crews safe. We also thank the Frankfort Town PD for their assistance.

We thank our mutual aid partners for their support whenever we call them, and of course thank our dedicated FFD responders

Today, members of the Frankfort Fire Department participated in the Mock Motor Vehicle Accident (MVA) at Frankfort-Schuyler Junior/Senior High School to help raise awareness about the dangers of impaired and distracted driving.

The message, “No Empty Seats,” serves as a powerful reminder that every decision behind the wheel affects not only the driver, but families, friends, classmates, and the entire community. The goal is simple — make smart choices, drive responsibly, and ensure everyone makes it home safely.

We would like to thank the school administration, faculty, students, Town of Frankfort Police, Frankfort Center Fire Dept., Ilion Fire Dept., MOVAC Ambulance, coroner Vincent Iocovizzi, and Rons Service Station for coming together to make this important event possible. By working together and educating young drivers, we hope to prevent tragedies before they happen.
