Voices Against Violence (VAV) located at 7 Bishop Street, Framingham MA is part of the South Middlesex Opportunity Council (SMOC). We have a wide range of services meant to assist survivors in the healing process and to prevent future acts of sexual and domestic violence. Our FREE AND CONFIDENTIAL services include:
--24 Hour Hotline and Crisis Intervention:
counselors provide crisis intervention,
safety planning, resources and referrals
--Individual Supportive Counseling and Group Counseling:
reduce the short and long term effect of violence, increase understanding of the impact of sa/dv on their lives, ensure knowledge of their rights and options, provide education about the effects of abuse, promote independence, self-sufficiency
--Legal Advocacy:
police dept./court accompaniment to obtain legal protection, custody and other probate issues, support during trial or hearing
--24 Hour Medical Advocacy:
24/7 support for survivors in the ED, accompaniment for medical treatment and assistance with forensic evidence collection (SANE exam) following a sexual assault
--Emergency Shelter:
short-term shelter for any victim of domestic violence who is fleeing imminent danger, comprehensive case management to ensure safety and stability
--High Risk Domestic Violence Response
Team:
collaborative effort among community-based service providers, legal professionals and law enforcement to id and intervene with high risk cases share info, provide enhanced monitoring of offender, individualized interventions, and supports for victims
--Immigration Clinic
assist immigrant survivors apply for permanent status via VAWA petition or U-Visa
--Supervised Visitation
serving court-ordered families or those referred from DCF; safe and neutral space for children to visit with their non-custodial parent with domestic violence/child sexual abuse history (fees apply)
--Lawyer for a Day
assist survivors with family related issues such as divorce, custody agreements, child support/alimony, housing
--Community Outreach and Education
outreach to local schools, service providers, community organizations, to work to engage community in preventing domestic violence
