Happy Birthday US Army!

Happy 251st Birthday to the United States Army!

Today, the Framingham Veterans Department and the Framingham Veterans Council join communities across the nation in celebrating the 251st anniversary of the United States Army.

The Army traces its origins to June 14, 1775, when the Continental Congress established the Continental Army to defend the American colonies during the Revolutionary War, more than a year before the Declaration of Independence was signed. The force would later evolve into today's United States Army, the oldest branch of the U.S. Armed Forces.

For 251 years, Army Soldiers have answered the call to serve, defending our nation through times of war and peace, responding to disasters, supporting allies, and protecting the freedoms we cherish. From the battlefields of the American Revolution to missions around the globe today, generations of Soldiers have demonstrated courage, sacrifice, and commitment to duty.

We extend our deepest gratitude to all Army veterans, active-duty Soldiers, reservists, National Guard members, and military families for their service and sacrifice.

Army Strong. This We'll Defend.

Happy Flag Day! 🇺🇸

Today, June 14, we proudly celebrate Flag Day, honoring the Stars and Stripes as the enduring symbol of our nation’s freedom, unity, and resilience.

Flag Day commemorates June 14, 1777, when the Second Continental Congress adopted the first official flag of the United States.

More than a century later, Wisconsin schoolteacher Bernard J. Cigrand began advocating for a national observance of the flag, leading to President Woodrow Wilson officially proclaiming June 14 as Flag Day in 1916. In 1949, Congress designated June 14 as National Flag Day.

This morning, the City of Framingham and the Framingham Veterans Council proudly hosted our annual Flag Day Parade through Downtown Framingham, followed by a Flag Day Ceremony at Cushing Memorial Park.

thank the veterans, elected officials, community groups, musicians, public safety personnel, and residents who joined us in honoring our nation’s flag and the generations of Americans who have served under it.

As the American flag flies proudly across Framingham today, we encourage everyone to take a moment to reflect on the freedoms it represents and the sacrifices made to protect them.

Happy Flag Day, Framingham!

🌼 Horticulture Students Help Beautify Framingham 🌼

On June 3, Keefe Tech Horticulture & Landscape Management students partnered with members of the Framingham Garden Club to help tend city gardens throughout the community.

Students worked alongside volunteers to divide perennials and remove weeds, helping prepare garden spaces for a beautiful season of blooms ahead.

This collaboration provided valuable hands-on experience while giving students the opportunity to contribute to projects that enhance the beauty of the Framingham community. 🌿

Thank you to the Framingham Garden Club for partnering with our students on another meaningful community project!

Deadline to take the Women, Children, & Families Commission's survey is July 5, 2026.

FRAMINGHAM – The City of Framingham’s Women, Children, and Families Commission (FWCFC), which seeks to improve the quality of life for women and families through advocacy, collaboration, education, and outreach, is asking for public input via a City-wide survey as it sets its priorities for the coming fiscal year.

The Commission, now in its 4th year, urges all residents to participate in the questionnaire to ensure that future priorities focus on those identified as most imperative by local residents.

“Framingham is strongest when every voice in our community is heard. This survey is an opportunity for residents to share their experiences and help shape the future of our city. I encourage everyone, especially women and families, to take a few minutes to participate so we can continue building a more supportive, connected, and inclusive community together,” said City of Framingham Mayor Charlie Sisitsky.

According to census data, Framingham, which has about 72,000 residents, is approximately 50% female and is home to about 15,000 children under the age of 18. The Commission aspires to empower women and children by advocating for their needs, and by giving voice to their concerns through reports and recommendations to the Mayor. Members of the Commission regularly participate in events throughout the city and are sponsors of Framingham’s Women’s History Month event.

“Women comprise a large portion of the city of Framingham’s vibrant community, as economic drivers, educators, caregivers, community leaders, agents of change, and much more. As a Commission, we feel privileged to play a role in identifying areas of concern and working with Mayor Sisitsky to address those issues in a way that makes our constituents feel heard and supported,” said Commission Chair Carolyn Assa. “We hope to get feedback from at least 500 residents through this survey which is now live.”

Surveys are anonymous. All residents are encouraged to participate.

You can access the survey here:
https://framinghamma.gov/FormCenter/Boards-Committees-Commissions-39/Women-Children-Families-Commission-Surve-201

“Everyone wants to be valued, yet too often women place the needs of others before their own, and their voices go unheard. Through this survey, we want the women of Framingham to know that we see them, we value them, and we are listening so that every woman and every family has access to the resources and support they need to thrive,” said Cynthia Blanc Preiss MacLean, Commission vice-chair, and elected Framingham Library Trustee.

The deadline to complete the survey is Sunday, July 5, 2026 at 11:59 p.m.
