Donโ€™t stop training!

๐Ÿ”ฅ๐Ÿš’ FIREFIGHTERS READ THE SMOKE.

When most people see a fire, they focus on the flames.

Firefighters look at the smoke.

Because smoke can provide important clues about fire conditions before crews ever enter a building.

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Is the smoke increasing in volume?
๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Is it moving faster?
๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Is it becoming thicker?
๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Is it changing color or direction?

These observations help firefighters assess fire development, potential fire spread, ventilation effects, and hazards that may not yet be visible.

Smoke is one of the most valuable sources of information on the fireground. Changes in smoke conditions can indicate changes in heat, fuel involvement, airflow, and overall fire behavior.

๐Ÿ”ฅ Flames show what is already burning.

๐ŸŒซ๏ธ Smoke can help firefighters understand what the fire may be doing beyond what they can immediately see.

That is why firefighters constantly observe, analyze, and reassess smoke conditions throughout an incident.

๐Ÿš’ Smoke is not just a byproduct of fireโ€”it is information.

Observe. Analyze. Adapt.
