We were happy to stop by Olivia’s lemonade stand and grab a cup of refreshing lemonade on such a hot day!

Olivia’s lemonade stand was set up in support of Alex’s Lemonade Stand Foundation, where lemonade stands across the country help raise money and awareness for childhood cancer research.

This also a reminder that the Grove Firefighters Association has recently partnered with Project Fire Buddies. If you know a child who may benefit from this incredible organization, we encourage you to contact Project Fire Buddies for more information!

You can read more about these amazing organizations below and even make a donation to support the cause!

Senior luncheon was a success!! Thank you to all that came out. We had some safety presentations, delicious food from Brunch Cafe, and a special guest from IATP, Paula A Basta. The IATP offers technological devices at little or no cost and numerous other services and support. Please visit www.iltech.org for more information. We would also like to thank Home Depot of Crystal Lake and US Fire & Safety for the extinguisher donations that we handed out to help keep our residents safe in the event of home fire.

Happy International Firefighters Day!!

International Firefighters' Day (IFFD) is observed annually on May 4. This day honors the dedication, bravery, and sacrifices of firefighters worldwide. It was established on January 4, 1999, in response to the deaths of five firefighters in a 1998 Australian bushfire, often aligning with St. Florian's Day, the patron saint of firefighters.

Key Aspects of International Firefighters' Day:

• Purpose: To recognize and honor the dedication and risk firefighters face, whether volunteering or working full-time, to protect lives and property.
• Symbolism: The day is symbolized by a red and blue ribbon, representing fire and water, respectively.
• Traditions: Some Departments at noon local time on May 4, fire sirens often sound for 30 seconds, followed by a minute of silence to remember fallen firefighters.
• Origin: The date coincides with St. Florian’s Day, commemorating the patron saint of firefighters and a historic Roman battalion commander.

How to Participate:

• Wear Ribbons: Display the red and blue ribbon on uniforms, vehicles, or social media.
• Show Gratitude: Thank local firefighters in person or by visiting a fire station.
• Light Up: Use a red porch light to show support.
• Observe Silence: Participate in the moment of silence at noon, as mentioned on the National Day Calendar.
