At the work party today we met a micro-sized resident of the Fox Island Nature Center!

All of the recent rain and wind brought down a few branches onto the trails, which are all cleaned up and in tip-top shape if you want to come meet any new friends as well.

Happy fall, everyone. 🍂

Had a good group out today tidying up the trails and making some progress against the blackberries.

Over the years, dozens of projects by Troop 27 Fox Island have added boardwalks over the swamps, picnic tables, benches, and more for people to enjoy some peace and solitude at the nature center. Thanks, scouts !

If you feel like coming out to join us and don't mind getting your hands dirty on a spring Saturday morning, send us a message and we'll give you all the details.

This is a magical time for moss - that sweet spot where it’s warm enough to grow and wet enough to thrive. We have any type of moss you’d care to find at the Fox Island Nature Center!

This is a flowering currant 🌺, one of the earliest native plants to bud and bloom this spring at the Fox Island Nature Center. Our volunteers spend a lot of time encouraging native plants and discouraging non-native invaders (looking at you, blackberry 😤).

Read a little more about flowering currants here: https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/Ribes_sanguineum

Spring is springing at the Fox Island Nature Center, even for our arch nemeses, the non-native Himalaya blackberry bushes that grow fast and make the trails a lot less friendly.
