If you are concerned about the proposed 1500 acre solar project in the Macclesfield, Fountain area:
The meeting concerning the rezoning for Edgecombe is on 10/21/2024. Your county commissioner is Ralph Webb.
My concerns:
1.The project covers road to road - Old Market to Otter Creek and Old Market into Wilson County. It will be fenced in, displacing and eliminating any wildlife forage or travel.
2.They promise to plant natural barriers to "Hide" the solar panels but if you take a ride around any of the farms in Edgecombe, It is a joke. They all look like crap and the "barriers are mostly dead half-planted crap which never grows. All you see is half broken weedy solar panels.
3. The wind has gotten crazy since much of the Edgecombe timber was cut. I had hoped it would subside again once the cutdowns regrew. That won't happen with a solar farm.
4. Your tax dollars -federal funds - are paying for this to be done. They would not be profitable if the solar companies had to foot the bill for the leases, construction and materials (it would cost more to build and maintain than it would generate.)
5. Your farmers will suffer from rising farm rent to grow crops as more and more land is taken up for this "Green" project. I would bet that the energy - diesel fuel and gas used to clear the woods and build these farms would take many years for the panels to generate, possibly more than their lifespan.
6. Two boundaries of my farm will be bordered by this crap. I never received any notice and heard it second hand. My property value will decrease because of it, along with anyone else near it. - Not to mention 12 to 18 months of construction next door.
7. If nothing else - your Sunday country scenic drive will be ruined.
Say your peace. Might not help but once it's done, you're stuck with it.
