We recently had the pleasure of hosting our annual Groundwater Adventure Tour, an all-day event that brought guests to multiple OCWD facilities, including the GWRS, water quality laboratory, Santa Ana River, Burris pump station, La Palma basin, and Prado constructed wetlands. We love providing this behind-the-scenes look at Orange County’s water supply. Interested in attending future OCWD events? Sign up for our newsletter at ocwd.com/news-events/newsletter.

“Wastewater recycling has been proven. Orange County has been doing it for two decades.” - L.A. Waterkeeper

That message was highlighted in a recent PBS SoCal story showcasing OCWD’s leadership in water reuse and the development of local water supplies. The Groundwater Replenishment System (GWRS) is an important part of how OCWD sustainably manages the Orange County Groundwater Basin and supports a reliable, high-quality water supply for 2.5 million people in north and central Orange County. ♻️💧

DYK OCWD operates 30 recharge facilities with a combined storage capacity of 8.1 billion gallons? Throughout the year, District staff clean and maintain these facilities, remove accumulated sediment, and ensure our infrastructure and systems are ready to receive and recharge water into the groundwater basin. Thank you Orange County Register for highlighting some of the actions OCWD is taking to prepare for the upcoming rainy season and maximize every drop. 🔗 www.ocregister.com/2026/10/05/with-a-potentially-historic-el-nino-looming-heres-how-orange-county-is-getting-ready

We put our Maintenance Manager to the test with a Board Room “water emergency”, but it was all for a good reason.

We’re happy to introduce our new canned GWRS water! The same high-quality purified water produced at our Groundwater Replenishment System has made its way into cans. It’s another way to share the story of water reuse and the technology behind one of Orange County’s most important local water supplies.

What does the number 55 mean to you? To us it means more clean, reliable water. Of the 106 drinking water wells impacted by PFAS in north and central Orange County, more than half are back online. That means OCWD’s water retailers can once again rely on groundwater for nearly all of their water supply. Visit pfas.ocwd.com to learn how we’re working together to proactively and swiftly address PFAS.
