Yesterday afternoon Fountain City and Williamsburg Fire Departments had the chance to cool off some deserving kids at Northeastern Jr/Sr High School. The marching band and the damsels enjoyed the fun after a hot day of practice!

With below 0° temps coming be sure to leave your water drip about the size of a pencil. This will help to keep your pipes from freezing. Please be extra cautious when using any type of heater to thaw pipes out as they can easily catch your house on fire. Also, high winds will cause drifting of snow and the potential of a flash freeze is very possible. Slow down and use extreme caution when driving. Keep extra blankets, winter shoes, jackets, water and anything else you can think of in your vehicle to prepare yourself if you get stuck. We throughly enjoy interacting with the public but fires and wrecks are not how we want to meet you! Stay Safe this weekend!

Closing your door at night could save your life.

But, do you know what type of interior door you have hanging?

For a majority of us we have hollow core doors as our bed rooms. These doors are not truly hollow they have a honeycomb interior surround with a some soft wood and a wood veneer.

These doors do not have a fire rating to them but can sustain high heat for a substantial amount of time.

SCL doors ( Structural Composite Lumber)

These doors are constructed out of structural composite lumber and are have a fire rating of 20mins. These doors are ideal for homeowners.

Particleboard doors

These doors are made out of ground wood and put together by a glue. The core have lower density and can be rated for 20mins.

Extra heavy duty particleboard doors. The inner core is more dense and can be rated up to 45 mins.

Solid wood/MDF

Some solid wood doors have a rating of 20-30 mins

MDF

Medium density fiberboard. These doors are glued wood fibers and can have a fire rating of 20-90 mins depending on the manufacturer and design.

This is just a very brief overview of the different types of doors. There’s many others but these are the most common.

Thank you Impact Rescue for coming to our county wide extrication training. Also thank you to al the county departments that attended and Careflight for bringing a helicopter over. Was a great day training and fellowship!

Had a great time talking to, and educating the 5th grade class at Northeastern Elementary about fire trucks and what all the equipment does during touch a truck. Fantastic group of young kids that really enjoyed the fire trucks.
