We had our monthly drill this week and we changed it up a bit. The primary goal of the drill was to work on respiratory control and see how long each member could last on a 45 min bottle of air. The opponents to give us a challenge was our families. We turned it into a family night with pizza while gaining valuable training experience.

It’s been a busy week for us. We would like to send out a thank you to Bloomdale Fire, Kansas Fire, Risingsun Fire, and Eagleville EMS for their assistance with a garage fire early Tuesday morning. The garage was fully engulfed prior to our arrival with a quick response was able to keep the damage to the nearby trailer at a minimum. Then today we had a pickup truck fire and with the assistance of Bloomdale Fire and Eagleville EMS it was knocked down quickly and the nearby building didn’t sustain any damage.

Thank you to Bloomdale Fire and Eagleville EMS for their assistance tonight at a field/combine fire. Combine wasn’t damaged and we were able to knock the field fire down before it reached the standing corn. This is the 4th field fire we have had in less than two weeks. Two of the fires were started by ci******es thrown in the roadside and the other two were cause by equipment. There are field fires almost daily across the county due to the extremely dry conditions. Please be with the farmers and all the fire departments out there as everyone works together to get through harvest this year.

Last night we did a relay pumping and water supply drill. The initial emphasis was maintaining multiple lines at various pressures with only a limited amount of water supply. Then we went into more of a relay pumping and communication drill between the trucks on working together to achieve the proper flows and pressures between two deluge guns.

Tonight we held our annual awards banquet. As always it’s a great night of socializing with past and current members. We were honored to be able to present an award that are few and far between, but congratulations to Dave Lauck for 50 years of service. Marcus Barr and Zach Stumpf were also recognized for 10 years of service and Firefighter of the year went to Jarrod Andrus. Also a big recognition to all of our members that allow this department to function and operate to serve our township.

Another training topic we did tonight was nozzle training and hose advancement. We made it a little bit of a competition with each other to see who could get the nozzle set the best and advance the ball the fastest. It was something new and we all had a lot of fun.

Tonight we done a variety of different training ideas that we have never done before but we learnt that our fire gear has some buoyancy for a short time.
