The East Fort Worth PAL youth boxing team’s new facility located at 5300 Sun Valley Dr., in east Fort Worth. It’s still a work in progress, but it’s coming along great. The gym is staffed with experienced coaches who not only teach the sport of competitive boxing, but who also act as positive mentors that guide our local youth to success in education and career. Our membership age group is 8 - 18. If you live close to this location and would like more information about the program, please reach out!

I’d like to take a moment to recognize these two long time competitors of the Fort Worth Police Athletic League Youth Boxing Team. Julian Maldonado pictured left, and Edgar Hernandez, right. They are both long time competitors, and transitioned to the FWPAL boxing team when we started the program in 2017.

Edgar, the oldest member of our team will be graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington this December with a Mechanical Engineering Degree. He will be the first FWPAL student athlete to accomplish this achievement. He has received several job offers, but along with his career he plans to make time to continue training and competing in the sport he loves. Can’t wait to see him back!

Julian the second oldest member of our team is enrolled at Texas State University and will begin his freshman year next week. Julian is a Criminal Justice major and has aspirations of becoming a Fort Worth Police Officer upon graduation.

This is a proud moment for the program and the
department. When we started the program in 2017, we implemented several sports programs that included boxing, flag football, basketball, cheer and outdoor excursions. We used these sports programs as an avenue to connect with area youth. We took advantage of that connection to not only teach the sport, but to mentor, teach life lessons, and provide a pathway to success. Whether it’s higher learning, the military, or a vocational education, it is our goal to guide and prepare our youth as future leaders of our communities.
