Happy St. Patrick’s Day!
Today’s the one day a year where everyone claims a little Irish heritage—but in the fire service, we’ve got a pretty legit connection year-round.
St. Patrick is known as the patron saint of Ireland, but he’s also recognized by many as a protector against danger… which sounds a lot like the job description of a firefighter. Legends say he drove the snakes out of Ireland—honestly, we’re still trying to figure out how to add that to our daily run reports.
Firehouses have long embraced Irish traditions, from strong family bonds to a culture built on loyalty, hard work, and just the right amount of storytelling (some of it even true). And let’s be honest—if there were ever a holiday built for the kitchen table at the station, this is it.
So whether you’re on shift, off duty, or just enjoying some corned beef and cabbage, take a moment to appreciate the shared traditions, the brotherhood and sisterhood, and maybe a little extra luck that helps keep everyone safe.
Stay safe, enjoy the day, and don’t test your luck too much—we’ve got enough calls as it is.
