Today, we could not be more proud of two of our own.

FW Firefighters Caleb Halvorson and James “J.B.” Huddleston were honored by the State of Texas with the Star of Texas Award, recognizing first responders who have been seriously injured or killed in the line of duty.
Both Caleb and J.B. suffered serious injuries while doing what they had sworn to do... protect the citizens of Fort Worth.
In June 2024, J.B. was seriously burned while battling a house fire when rapidly changing conditions forced firefighters to escape from the second story. His injuries resulted in nearly a month of treatment at Parkland’s Burn Unit.
In September 2025, Caleb was critically injured when a garage collapsed on him while fighting a house fire. Trapped beneath burning debris, Caleb was rescued by his fellow firefighters and flown to Parkland, beginning a long journey that has included extensive burns, multiple surgeries and months of rehabilitation.
Their injuries remind us of the very real risks firefighters face every time they answer the call. Their recoveries have also shown us something else, incredible strength, determination and the importance of our firefighter family.
Today, Governor Greg Abbott and the State of Texas recognized their sacrifice with one of our state’s highest honors for first responders.
To Caleb, J.B., and their families, your Local 440 family is incredibly proud of you. We have stood beside you through some incredibly difficult days, and we are honored to stand beside you today as the State of Texas recognizes your courage and sacrifice.
Congratulations, brothers. This recognition is well deserved.

Today we remember September 11, 2001.
On this day, 2,977 lives were lost, including 343 firefighters who ran toward danger and gave everything in the service of others.
Their courage, sacrifice, and devotion to duty will never be forgotten.
As , we honor their memory, their families, and the countless others who continue to bear the weight of that tragic day.

Today, we recognize the working men and women whose skill, dedication, and hard work keep Fort Worth and communities across our country moving forward.

Labor Day is also a reminder of what working people can accomplish when we stand together, fighting for safe workplaces, fair wages, strong benefits, and a better future for our families.

We are incredibly fortunate to have the nation’s best fire photographer right here in Fort Worth.

The images Glen captures are nothing short of amazing. He has a unique ability to capture the intensity, emotion, and human side of the job while telling the stories of the men and women who serve our community.

Thank you Glen, for your dedication to the Fort Worth Fire Department and for the countless hours you put into documenting our firefighters and the work they do every day.

Members of our Wildland team continue to work as part of a TIFMAS Strike Team with our new type 3 engine. Fire conditions continue to be extreme and we ask our followers to be vigilant about their outdoor activities. Please keep all of those impacted by these fires in your thoughts and prayers.

Last night, responded to a residential fire in the 7600blk of Crowley Road on southside of Fort Worth .

As crews made their way to the second floor they suddenly encountered high conditions. A Mayday was called by the crew, prompting the Incident Commander to immediately call for a second alarm and activate RIT. Thankfully, firefighters were able to quickly locate them and bring them outside. Two of our firefighters were transported to local hospitals with burn injuries. Both firefighters are stable, but they sustained significant burns and face an extended road to recovery.

Today our focus is on our brothers who were injured doing what they do each and every day… Protecting the citizens of Fort Worth. We ask everyone to keep these firefighters, their families, their crews, and your Fort Worth Firefighters in your thoughts and prayers as they begin the long road ahead.

We are grateful for the quick actions of the firefighters who answered the Mayday and brought their brothers to safety. This is exactly what the fire service is about: we take care of our own.

Who is ready for some chili, a good time, and hopefully some cooler weather at this year's cook-off?
