Join us September 16th in celebrating the contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans to the group's heritage and culture outside the BLUU. There will be music, food, community, and student organizations.

“In June, the Fort Worth school board voted 8-0 in favor of Clark’s “proposed termination.” Superintendent Kent P. Scribner recommended that Clark be terminated based on her use of racially insensitive language and her abuse of social media.”

Now, Robert C Plather Jr has released a recommendation that claims Clark should continue to teach in FWISD. This means that the board will need to vote again and Clark may very well return to the classroom

A woman who tweeted “Mr. President, Fort Worth Independent School District is loaded with illegal students from Mexico, Carter-Riverside High School has been taken over by them.” Should not be in any classroom. We saw the impact, the tragedy, that results from language like this.

Now it is in the districts hands again:

“The Fort Worth Independent School District has received a recommendation from the hearing examiner who conducted the hearing regarding the proposed termination of Ms. Georgia Clark.,” the district said in a statement. “In accordance with Chapter 21 of the Texas Education Code, the recommendation will be presented to the Board for action at a future meeting. As this is a personnel matter, the District has no further comment at this time.”

The future meeting does not have a date yet, but we ask that anyone who can attend do so.

A hearing examiner has found that the Fort Worth school district didn’t have enough evidence to propose the termination of teacher Georiga Clark, who came under fire after tweeted about immigrants.

Many Fort Worth citizens fear for their lives, especially people of color, economically disadvantaged, as well as other minority groups.

The country has shown us what police officers can do to someone simply because they felt like they can and eventually get away with it. Police brutality scares us. 287g scares us. Intimidation scares us. That is why the Fort Worth Race and Culture Task Force recommended an independent community police oversight committee- so that Fort Worth shows the city cares about their fears.

This is a great opportunity for Fort Worth to show the residents that they shouldn’t be scared and that justice will be done, however resistance remains strong in City Council.

Some members, like Cary Moon and Brian Byrd, prefer to keep the city’s tax rate low and would like to spend very little money, if any, on what is a serious issue for the diverse community of Fort Worth. City Manager David Cooke also claims the board will be “independent” while recommending Assistant City Manager Jay Chapa be the police monitor’s boss.

This does not provide an independent board as Chapa is also the police chief’s boss as well as the assistant manager over the police department... what could go wrong?

Join us as we ensure that City Council knows we need a police oversight committee, we need more than two people on the committee, the committee needs to be appropriately funded, and that Jay Chapa NOT be appointed to the committee.

City Council will decide on September 17 whether the voice of Fort Worth calling for the city to ensure safety and justice to it’s constituents matters to them.

We have one more City Council Public Hearing where we will be voicing our need for a fair committee this Tuesday, September 10, 2019 7:00 pm at City Council Chambers, 2nd floor of City Hall (200 Texas St.).

An elected official should do their constituents the courtesy of meeting with them. The fact that Representative Granger feels that it is acceptable to demand payment to see her in the district she represents is a great disservice to the people of TX12.

Limiting her audience by number and the ability to pay shows that she is not willing to represent everyone equally.

Today we celebrate the passage of the 19th amendment, and while those 28 words opened the door to the voting booth for some, it was still largely denied to women of color. For many, it wasn’t until 1965, with the passage of the voting rights act that a close to full majority of women could vote. Vote on sisters, we have worked hard for it.
