Celebrating Wonder Woman, Lynda Carter, during Hispanic Heritage Month
Did you know that Wonder Woman was Latina? The former 1972 Miss World USA and American female icon as Wonder Woman, was born to her Mexican-American mother, Juana Córdova, and her Anglo father, Colby Carter, in Arizona.
She grew up to be prideful of her Mexican roots, and became a role model to Latinas in the United States. Carter speaks passionately about her Latina heritage and says that some of her favorite memories include eating her grandmother’s homemade tortillas and menudo.
Carter made her television debut on Lew King's Talent Show at age 5, and pursued her interests in the entertainment industry through her involvement in multiple bands during her high school career. Shortly after winning the Miss World USA pageant in 1972, she landed the role of Wonder Women in the hit DC Comics TV series, which lasted four years.
She was also named "The Most Beautiful Woman in the World" by The International Academy of Beauty and The British Press Organization and had achievements in her singing career, including the release her album, Portrait.
Today Carter’s legacy as Wonder Women still empowers women and the Latin community to achieve their dreams.
