As National Wetlands Month comes to a close, TRWD is also looking toward the future of water sustainability in North Texas. In January 2025, TRWD honored former Board Director Martha “Marty” V. Leonard by naming the Cedar Creek Wetlands Project in her honor. A lifelong conservationist, nature lover, and advocate for sustainability, Marty Leonard was instrumental in championing wetlands as a natural solution for protecting and extending the region’s water supply.
During her 17 years of service on the TRWD Board of Directors, Marty helped guide environmental stewardship efforts that continue to shape the District today. She believed deeply in conservation, collaboration, and planning for the future of water management in North Texas. The future Marty Leonard Wetlands Project will continue that vision by using natural solutions to support water quality, sustainability, and reliable water supply planning for future generations.
Thank you, Marty Leonard, for your leadership, stewardship, and lasting impact on our community and water resources.
