On this day 30 years ago, our shift started off like any other. Little did we know that we would be victims of an aggravated assault on peace officers which led to this pursuit. It was the first of a few I had on TV - Americas Most Deadly Police Chases.

The suspect was later convicted and sent to the penitentiary for 2 counts of Aggravated Assault on Peace Officers.

On this date in 1836, my cousin, General Sam Houston, and his troops defeated Gen Antonio Lopez de Santa Anna at the battle of San Jacinto to secure Texas’ independence . Although outnumbered 1200-1500 to 800-900, the Texans were able to defeat the larger Mexican in just over 18 minutes. The Texans had 11 killed or fatally wounded and 30 injured while the Mexicans had 650 killed, 208 wounded and 300 captured and many more fled.

For those of us who are Texas A&M Aggies, we also hold this day special as we celebrate Aggie Muster, which honors the lives of our fellow Aggies who have passed during the last year by a calling of their names. When their names are called, a family member or friend will answer “Here” to symbolize that they may be gone but are still present in our minds and hearts. The most famous Aggie Muster was held in 1942 during World War II on the small island of Corregidor. Today, Aggie Musters are held around the world.
