Last Saturday was a special time to be at the FWNC&R to learn the ways of the local Kiowa tribe, who shared with us beautiful story, their traditions and held a blessing for all who partook in honor of our bison herd.
Dancers from the Fort Worth ISD American Indian Education Program demonstrated dances along with special guests of the Kiowa Tribe, Michael Tongkeamha, and Alejandra “BW” Tonkeamha, of the Carrizo-Comecrudo Tribe.

The Friends are honored to host such an event and also show great gratitude to our members whose annual support plays a huge part in our bison herd care and range land management, expansion and enhancement.

Friends members gathered earlier this spring for a special panel of remarkable women in Texas conservation. Lydia Saldaña and Marty Leonard were joined by author Jennifer Bristol to discuss her new book, “Wild Women for Good” and how we can each make conservation strides on our rapidly changing Texas landscapes.

This is just one of the many special events that the Friends of the Fort Worth Nature Center & Refuge holds. If you are not a member, join or renew today.
