¡Viva our Latino community! 🎉🌎

As Hispanic Heritage Month begins, we celebrate the independence of Costa Rica, El Salvador, Guatemala, Honduras, Nicaragua, Mexico, and Chile while honoring the culture, history, and strength of our communities.

At the James L. West Center for Dementia Care, we want Hispanic and Latino families to know that we are here for you. Through Cerebro Sano, we offer Spanish-language dementia education, caregiver support and resources, and information to help protect brain health.

Wherever you are on the dementia journey, you are not alone. 💜

YOUR GIFT AT WORK 💙

This North Texas Giving Day, every dollar raised for James L. West will directly support our Caregiver and Dementia Education Programs.

That support helps us provide trusted education and resources for family caregivers, healthcare professionals, students, and members of our community — including programs and support groups designed to help people feel more informed, prepared, and connected as they navigate dementia.

In the last year, our education team reached more than 11,000 individuals. With your help, we can continue expanding that impact.

North Texas Giving Day is this Thursday, September 17, and early giving is open now.

That is why education and support are such an important part of what we do at James L. West. Through educational programs, caregiver support groups, professional training, online resources, and community partnerships, our team works to make trusted dementia information easier to access. 💙

We are officially one week away from North Texas Giving Day! 💙

Over the past two weeks, we have been sharing our 33 Years of Impact series and introducing you to some of the people and programs behind the James L. West mission. And we are not done yet.

If you have learned from one of our programs, attended a support group, trusted us with someone you love, worked alongside our team, or simply believe families impacted by dementia deserve access to education and support, we invite you to be part of what comes next.

You can give now during early giving or join us next Thursday, September 17.

🎥 33 YEARS OF IMPACT | THERAPY THAT MEETS PEOPLE WHERE THEY ARE

What can therapy look like for a person living with dementia? It can mean supporting communication, mobility, daily routines, safety, independence, and the abilities that help someone continue engaging in the life around them.

Today, our Director of Rehabilitation is sharing how they meet each person where they are and adapt care to support quality of life. 💙

The more caregivers and healthcare professionals understand dementia, the better equipped they are to provide meaningful, individualized support. That is why education remains such an important part of the James L. West mission.

North Texas Giving Day is September 17, and early giving is open now.

33 YEARS. ONE MISSION. 💙

Since 1993, James L. West has worked to enhance the lives of people living with dementia and those who care for them. Over the years, our services have grown, our reach has expanded, and our understanding of dementia care has continued to evolve — but our commitment to families has remained at the heart of everything we do.

As we celebrate 33 years, North Texas Giving Day gives our community an opportunity to help us carry that mission forward.

Your support helps us continue providing caregiver education, professional training, community resources, and support for families navigating dementia.

Early giving is open now, and North Texas Giving Day is September 17.

Sundowning can be a challenging time for both people living with dementia and their caregivers. 💜

The goal isn’t to stop the behavior—it’s to understand what may be causing it and help the person feel safe.

Remember the CALM Method:
C — Check for physical needs
A — Acknowledge their feelings
L — Lower stimulation
M — Move toward something familiar

Save this tip for later and follow us for more practical dementia caregiving strategies! 💜

🎥 33 YEARS OF IMPACT | MORE THAN A MEAL

At James L. West, dining is about so much more than what is on the plate. A familiar meal, a welcoming table, the right support, and opportunities to connect can all play an important role in a person’s day.

Today, our Dining Services Director, Pam, is giving you a insight at the thought and care that goes into creating meaningful dining experiences for people living with dementia. 🍽️💙

It is another example of how specialized dementia knowledge touches every department at James L. West — and why education is such an important part of our mission.

North Texas Giving Day is September 17. Early giving is open now!

💜 September is World Alzheimer’s Month.

This month is an opportunity to raise awareness, continue important conversations, and help families better understand Alzheimer’s disease and other forms of dementia.

At the James L. West Center for Dementia Care, this work is at the heart of what we do every day. From specialized residential care to our Day Program, Home Care, education, and family support, we believe that people living with dementia deserve compassionate, individualized care—and that families deserve support along the way.

Follow along throughout World Alzheimer’s Month as we share dementia education, practical caregiving tips, resources for families, stories from our community, and a closer look at the people and programs that make our mission possible. 💜

Together, we can continue building a community that better understands, supports, and cares for those impacted by dementia.

💡 DID YOU KNOW?

In the last year alone, James L. West offered more than 300 educational programs for caregivers and professionals and provided education to more than 11,000 people seeking dementia support and training. 💙

Education is one of the most powerful ways we can extend our impact beyond the people we serve directly. When a family member, care partner, student, or healthcare professional learns more about dementia, that knowledge can change the way someone experiences care.

This North Texas Giving Day, your gift supports our Caregiver and Dementia Education Programs and helps keep these resources accessible to the community.
