Fort Worth friends and defenders of freedom and property rights everywhere-
Do you know that you do not have the right to rent your FW primary residence in whole or in part as a short term rental?
Why should you care? Imagine a time in your life (or a friend or family member) when you no longer need the home you have lived in for years, kids have grown, maybe you are divorced or widowed. But you love your home, you love your neighborhood and neighbors. But taxes and upkeep are making it harder and harder to keep up. You could downsize and move but you don’t want to.
Or maybe you have the opportunity to work remotely, or you are retired, and have the opportunity to travel, but you don’t want to sell your home, and you don’t want a 12 month tenant bc you want flexibility to return home.
What if you could rent your home in part or in whole, or your garage apartment as a STR? You could rent it out while you are out of town. Or you could rent a garage apartment and never leave your home. Maybe during key dates for FW visitors like TCU home football games, or graduation weekend, FW Stock Show, Colonial golf tournament, all dates when hotels are scarce. And many people prefer the amenities an STR provides over a hotel room.
Fort Worth passed an ordinance in 2018 banning all STRs in residential neighborhoods and drastically restricting them in commercial and mixed use zones.
The city has proposed 4 options that all still ban STRs in residential neighborhoods, even owner occupied. If you have an opinion on the subject please visit the website with more info, and the second website to submit your comment on the matter. You don’t have to be a resident to submit a comment.
This is a city link to STR policy information and ability to vote in the 4 options or to recommend a different option..

For those who support STRs and want to be part of an organization that advocates for STR standards you find “Fort Worth Short Term Rental Alliance” on Facebook.
Also consider emailing Mayor Mattie Parker and city council members. They are seriously reviewing all input.
