Fort Wayne (IN)
My name is Michelle Chambers.

I am asking for your continued support to elect me to Fort Wayne City Council At-Large on November 03, 2015. As the top vote getter on May 05, 2015, securing 25% of the over all vote from Fort Wayne residents, I continue to campaign throughout the entire city and need your continued support both financially and at the polls on November 03, 2015. ident of this great city and for nearly four years, I have owned and operated two small businesses. For more than 50 years my family has lived and worked in Fort Wayne and contributed to its growth and prosperity. Even during the city’s tough economic times, we have remained loyal and steadfast to its promise. I am running because I am committed to this city, its residents and making local government work better for everyone. As a business owner, I have learned that nothing comes easy, but through hard work, dedication and collective service all things are possible. It is that “can do” attitude and entrepreneurial creativity that I would bring to my service on the Council - making Fort Wayne a better place to live, work and play for all people. The future of Fort Wayne, however, is not without its challenges. Over the years, I have seen first-hand opportunities the benefit from the city’s downtown economic revival, while the downtown continue to grow as a City Council At Large Councilwoman I want to ensure the growth happen throughout the entire city. It is the concerns of those residents uncertain about their neighborhoods, schools, and businesses that often feel as though they are on the “sidelines of success” that have captured my attention and fueled my candidacy for City Council. The greatness of our city should not be limited to the excitement and growth of downtown, but should spread like wild fire across all of Fort Wayne – for THIS is our destiny. As a campaign platform, I have chosen to focus on three fundamental themes:
• Expanding economic development opportunities in traditionally underserved communities and;
• Spur economic growth and opportunities for corporations and small business committed to hiring Fort Wayne residents, thus expanding the City’s tax base.
• Promoting policies that encourage healthy and safe neighborhoods, especially for young families and single men and women;

With your help and support, I will be able to ensure that we will continue to make Fort Wayne a great community for all it’s residents. Please feel free to contact me with any questions, ideas or to offer support! Kind Regards,
Michelle Chambers

City of Fort Wayne Providing Free Bicycle Safety Training for Students

Fort Wayne, Ind – As our community continues to develop a bicycling culture, the City of Fort Wayne invites elementary and middle-school aged students to attend one of two FREE bicycle safety workshops that will teach young bicyclists the essentials for a safe, enjoyable biking experience.

The Fort Wayne Police Department Bike Patrol will provide a 30-minute safety session on being seen, being aware and being heard when riding your bike. They will include the "ABC Quick Check,” which is the golden rule of bicycle safety, a simple pre-ride inspection to ensure your bike is road-ready. It stands for: Air (tire pressure), Brakes (stopping power), and Chain (drivetrain). They will also discuss bike helmet fitting, correct seat height, proper clothing and shoes, and basic laws.

Students are asked to bring their bikes and their helmets. While supplies last, the Indiana Department of Transportation will provide free bike helmets. After the workshop, there will be a guided ride for students to practice what they’ve learned.

The following two sessions below will provide the same safety training and are open to all elementary and middle-school aged students:

June 24, 6:00 – 7:00 p.m.: Shoaff Park Conklin Pavilion, 6401 St. Joe Road. No registration required.
July 16, 3:00 – 4:00 p.m.: Weisser Park Youth Center, 802 Eckart Street. Enter via Drexel Avenue. Free Registration is required for this date. Contact 260-427-6780.

Residents should be on the lookout for a reported Neighborhood Code Compliance impersonator

Fort Wayne, Ind. – Fort Wayne’s Neighborhood Code Compliance office has again received reports of an individual posing as a Code officer and asking to enter the residence to complete an inspection. Neighborhood Code officers do not conduct unannounced interior inspections and residents should not allow a person claiming to be an officer inside their home.

Residents are reminded that:
• Code officers wear shirts featuring the official City of Fort Wayne seal.
• All officers carry official City of Fort Wayne identification.
• Officers drive clearly marked City of Fort Wayne vehicles.

Anyone who is approached by an individual claiming to be a Code officer without the proper identification or a marked City vehicle is encouraged to refuse entry and report the incident immediately. To report suspicious activity, residents may contact the Fort Wayne Police Department non-emergency number at 260-427-1222, unless someone is in danger and then 911 should be called.

Today, Democrats from every corner of Indiana will gather for our 2026 Indiana Democratic State Convention.

While I am unable to attend in person, my heart is certainly there in spirit.

Several months ago, I was honored to be asked to serve as Chair of the Convention’s Fun & Engagement Committee. What began as a simple assignment became an opportunity to reimagine how delegates experience convention—not just as attendees, but as participants in something bigger than themselves.

Together, our committee worked to create opportunities for people to connect, engage, celebrate, and build relationships across districts.

We launched a Community Issues Survey to give delegates a voice in the issues that matter most. We created the Dynamic Democrat Recognition Program to honor outstanding leaders and volunteers from across Indiana. We introduced a District Spirit Award that will travel from district to district each year, celebrating participation, pride, and enthusiasm. And through our Convention Passport and Treasure Hunt, we encouraged delegates to step outside their comfort zones, meet new people, and strengthen connections throughout our Democratic family.

None of this work happens alone.

I want to extend my sincere gratitude to my fellow committee members: Christine Bohm, Julia Sinclair, Marie Hitze, and Marsha Fleming. Thank you for your creativity, your dedication, your willingness to embrace new ideas, and your commitment to making this convention experience memorable for delegates across Indiana.

I am also grateful to the Indiana Democratic Party leadership for trusting our committee with the opportunity to bring these ideas to life.

At a time when it is easy to focus on what divides us, today I choose to focus on what unites us. We may come from different communities, backgrounds, and perspectives, but we are strongest when we remember that we are all working toward a common purpose: building a better Indiana for everyone.

To every delegate attending today, thank you for showing up. Thank you for participating. Thank you for voting. Thank you for believing that democracy works best when people engage.

May today be filled with meaningful conversations, new friendships, renewed energy, and a spirit of unity that carries forward long after convention ends.

I may not be there in person, but I am cheering all of you on from afar.

We Unite. We Fight. We Win.

The day after🤔🤔…..

Last night’s discussion regarding the Riverfront permit application for Rudy’s was never about whether Fort Wayne should have cigar lounges or vibrant nightlife. I have publicly supported creating opportunities for unique entertainment and hospitality experiences in our city.

My concerns were specifically related to whether this particular application satisfied the requirements and policy intent established under Indiana law and the City’s Downtown Dining District framework.

As elected officials, our responsibility is to review each application on its own merits, ask questions when there are unresolved compliance concerns, and ensure consistency in how these permits are applied. Supporting a policy category does not mean every individual application automatically qualifies for approval.

Supporting economic development and entertainment opportunities in Fort Wayne does not mean abandoning due diligence or ignoring questions about compliance. Responsible governance requires both.

I appreciate my colleagues taking additional time to review the matter before a final vote is taken.

What a beautiful evening on yesterday Thursday, April 30, 2026!

It was truly an honor to be in the room as my dear friend, Adams Township Trustee’s Office Trustee Denita Washington, was celebrated as Citizen of the Year, a well deserved recognition for a woman who gives so selflessly to our community.

Hosted by our Mayor Sharon Tucker and Cassie Beer of the Women’s Fund of the Community Foundation, the room was filled with love, respect, and people whose lives have been touched by Denita Bell Washington work through Fort Wayne Girls Rock. And that speaks volumes.
Denita is more than a leader, she is a praying woman, a devoted mother, a woman of integrity who moves with purpose and heart. She pours into others without hesitation, and our city is better because of it.
We often wait until people are gone to speak of their legacy… but last night, we had the blessing of giving her flowers while she can still receive them. 🌸

And what a beautiful thing that is.

Congratulations, Denita. Thank you for your impact, your friendship, and your unwavering commitment to Fort Wayne. 💖
