In observance of Memorial Day, Fort Wayne Animal Care & Control will be closed on Monday, May 25. We will resume normal hours on Tuesday, May 26.

If you find yourself needing Animal Control Officer assistance, please call our after hours/holiday number (260) 449-3000.

If you will be having guests over, make sure to first think of your pet's safety. It may be stressful for them to have many guests over. Consider keeping them in a separate room with their favorite things, enrichment toys, the TV on or a sound machine, and the windows closed. This also makes it so you don't have to worry about a pet slipping out of the door. If you are letting your dog outside to go potty and you have a fence, please check that the gates are securely closed just in case a guest opened it.

It is also important that your pet is wearing a collar with an ID tag and has a microchip with updated information. For info on microchips, visit our website: https://www.cityoffortwayne.in.gov/253/Microchips

We hope you all have a safe holiday weekend.

We are happy to share some sweet moments that were captured at last week's Parent's Night Out: Movie Night youth program for ages 6-12! 🐶🍿🎬

This was our third time hosting a sold out movie night and it was another fun success! We hope your child can join us at our next one happening Friday, September 18 from 6-9 pm right at our shelter in our education center. We will be watching Leo (PG), among other fun activities, enjoying pizza & a popcorn snack, and of course meeting with adoptable animals.

You can register today to secure your child's spot (max 20 participants): https://fwacc.campbrainregistration.com/

We are VERY excited to reveal the finished product of our new mural in our adoption center! 🤩

We want to extend a huge thank you to Karen Gillie, Graphic Design Instructor at FWCS Career Academy, and her very talented students, Diomar Soto and Pau Nge, for working together to utilize their talents to bring our idea to life!

Diomar and Pau are both seniors and this was their final project before high school graduation. We are very proud of their phenomenal work and are confident they will have successful careers in design. We feel grateful to be given the opportunity to work with the career academy and display their beautiful design for many years to come.

Congratulations Diomar and Pau on your graduation and we wish you all of the best in your futures! Thank you for sharing your talents with us.

We are speechless! You are looking at the faces of 16 adoptable pets ValkTak Industries & Hooked & Slightly Unhinged generously covered the adoption fees of this morning!!! 🥰👏

Here is what they said about the reason behind this act of kindness:

"This wasn’t done for recognition or attention — we did it because we truly believe that even small acts of kindness can make a huge difference in our community. Every animal deserves love, safety, and a family to call their own, and if we can help remove even one barrier standing between them and a forever home, then it’s worth it.

These animals have waited long enough for someone to choose them. Some have spent weeks, months, or even longer hoping for a second chance. By sponsoring their adoptions, we hope more families will open their hearts and give these pets the loving homes they deserve.

Supporting local shelters and rescues means supporting the entire community. When animals find homes, shelters gain space and resources to continue helping more animals in need. It creates a ripple effect of compassion, hope, and positive change.

We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who adopts, fosters, volunteers, donates, or simply shares shelter posts online. It all matters more than you know.

Here’s to 16 animals getting one step closer to their happily ever afters. 🏡🐶🐱"

We cannot say thank you enough to them for helping these sweet faces find their loving homes. This gesture is another reminder of how much good there is out in the world!

We are open 12 - 5:30 pm today at 3020 Hillegas Rd. Come find your next best friend. ❤

This beautiful, extremely sweet girl is GiGi and she cannot wait to join her loving family! 💙

Our friends at Mikes Affordable Appliances have generously taken care of her adoption fee for her future family.

GiGi is about a year old and came to us in February from a cat rescue. When she arrived, she had a severe case of upper respiratory infection with conjunctivitis, a very clogged nose and matted fur down her back. It is safe to say she was not feeling well. We started her on treatments to help her feel better. She went into a loving foster home to continue her medications and receive the rest and love she desired.

Gigi came back to us in April from foster care feeling and looking much better, but still had a slight kitty cold. After running tests and making sure she didn't have a nasal polyp, we discovered she has a common feline condition called "feline herpesvirus" (FHV-1), which can cause occasional sniffles, watery eyes, or mild cold-like symptoms - especially during times of stress. The good news? It's very common in cats, only affects other cats (not people or other pets), and many kitties live happy, full lives with it. Gigi may have intermittent flare-ups, so her future family should be prepared to keep an eye on her symptoms and provide supportive care when needed.

Because of the FHV-1, Gigi would benefit from a calm, low-stress environment where she can truly relax and feel safe. A consistent routine and lots of love will go a long way in helping her thrive. Her adopter should plan to establish care with a veterinarian early on to keep her feeling her best and to stay on top of any flare ups.

If you adopt GiGi, you will get nothing but love in return from her. She is a huge fan of attention despite getting handled all of the time for medication and exams. She is such a trooper!

Come meet her today until 6 pm or Thursday/Friday from 12 - 5:30 pm at 3020 Hillegas Rd! 🐾
