My son and I had a truly special Memorial Day this year as we travelled to Arlington National Cemetery for the services at the amphitheater in the cemetery. If you have never been to Arlington, it is a humbling and inspiring site with Lee’s mansion still well preserved, the JFK Eternal Flame, the USS Maine Memorial and of course the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier as well as over 470 thousand markers of the brave men and women who gave so much, often their lives to preserve our freedom. I have been blessed to have visited Arlington several times before, witnessed the wreath presenting services at the Tomb (once co-presented by our elder son), but this time was equally special as we heard speeches including remarks from vice-president Vance and president Trump from a distance barely more than 50 feet.
As great as they were, the speeches of Vance and Trump were actually not the most memorable, as the most powerful remarks were delivered by Gold Star parents who lost their only son 10 years earlier describing the pain and loss from such a forever life changing event while their daughters and widowed daughter-in-law stood in the foreground. Despite their loss, they did not regret their brave son’s choices and actions but instead gained a much deeper understanding of the price of freedom than any of us non-Gold Star folks will ever understand. The mother shared not only her consolation that she knows through her faith that she will hold her son again, and that she has no fear that we will lose our freedom to external forces, but does fear we will lose it from within. She didn’t name political parties, individuals or even use the word socialism but her meaning was unmistakable.
A third inspiring speech was from a Vietnam War, Medal of Honor recipient who served as a medic saving 10 lives while under horrific enemy fire. He described how he never stopped thinking of those men and how surprised he was when so many years later he was awarded the Medal of Honor from president Trump. He was however, most surprised recently by a call from a young man he had never met – the grandson of one of those he saved who had just become a young father himself who delivered a heart-felt personal thank you.
The challenge before us all, every day is to not take our God-given and hero protected freedom for granted.

Our Indiana law, states that political signs may remain displayed from 60 days before an election until 5 days after.

Now that this primary election has passed, I humbly ask that you remove your yard/any political signs.

It is the candidates responsibility to collect all of their signs.

The Franklin County Republican Party will hold a caucus on Wednesday, May 20, 2026 at 6:00 PM following the resignation effective June 1, 2026 of Franklin Circuit Court Clerk Neysa Raible.

This is a position that will end on December 31, 2026. Interested candidates must meet qualifications set forth by the state including the two primary election rule and must file a CEB-5 with the County Chair no later than 72 hours prior to the caucus.

Statute requires caucus to be held within 30 days of resignation and that all eligible precinct committeemen be notified by mail 10 days prior to caucus.

It is time once again for American citizens to put maximum pressure on our Congress to do the right thing and do the Will of the People. I am speaking of course about the passage of the Save Act which would codify in law such basic, common sense ideas that 70% or more of Americans support it. More specifically that is 70% of Americans across racial, ethnic, religious, gender and political classes.
The Save Act would establish:
• The requirement to have a photo ID and prove citizenship (this proof established at the time of registration) to vote
• More consistent verification and updates to state registered voter roles
• Likely / hopefully tighter limits on mail in ballots
We shouldn’t have to do this, as our representatives and their own individual sworn oaths the Constitution, members of Congress (House & Senate) should already be hard wired to do everything possible to ensure the integrity of American elections, but real-life experience teaches us otherwise. The usual strawman argument that this will disenfranchise women and minorities is being loudly proclaimed by the Democrats which is nonsense. Furthermore, as white male, I am really tired of this not-so-subtle form of bigotry and racism which clearly implies that women and minorities are somehow less able and competent to secure the same identification requirements as everyone else and if I were a female or of a minority race, I would be highly insulted.
In this 250th year of our great republic, it might do well to remind our Congressmen / Congresswomen of some words from one of the greatest documents ever written, the Declaration of Independence:
“ ….that to secure these rights, Governments are instituted among Men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed, — That whenever any Form of Government becomes destructive of these ends, it is the Right of the People to alter or to abolish it, and to institute new Government…”
Said another way, any member of Congress who does not support the Save Act needs to be primaried.

It was an amazing evening at the Farmers Mutual Expo Building for the Republican Lincoln Day Dinner. Micah Beckwith Lieutenant Governor of Indiana along with Elise Nieshalla Indiana State Comptroller were both great speakers.
